Oh man I'd love to see that. They'd still find a way to convince themselves analogies like that whole "VT as a mid level NBA team and an FCS championship as a European basketball championship" nonsense are accurate even after NDSU beats them though.

Last year's NDSU team would've gone into Lane Stadium, slapped them around and taken that lunch pail with them.

RE: Some at Tech want to schedule the Dukes in 2020
stolen from another board:

Quote:Baseball and Track & Field are still active for 2019, the following schools need a win to break their 22 year streak of failing to win a NCAA national championship. FYI, some of these schools have longer active streak, but the data I have starts with the first BCS championship in 1998 fall season. Texas Tech, Mississippi & Mississippi State are ALL still alive in the super regional.

ACC : Pittsburgh
ACC : Virginia Tech*
ACC : North Carolina State

Big Ten : Rutgers

Big 12 : Iowa State
Big 12 : Kansas State
Big 12 : Texas Tech

Pac 12 : Washington State

SEC : Missouri
SEC : Mississippi
SEC : Mississippi State

* Virginia Tech wikipedia page indicates they won a bass fishing championship in 2007, but I did not include this sport since it is not sanctioned by the NCAA.

=============================================================================================================
Updated 6/10/2019 to include every NCAA team national championship (1869-2019). I did not filter out championships that were removed by NCAA. For pre BCS/football NC used NCAA data @ : https://www.ncaa.com/history/football/fbs

* 3 P5 teams have never won a NCAA team championship
Mississippi State
Kansas State
Virginia Tech

Bass fishing is a club sport at VT, with no scholarships or university support. Its almost like a club team winning at paintball or Quidditch.

It's hilarious anyone even mentions that "championship", our 2015 Rugby Championship is a bigger deal, and likely not many folks are even aware of it.

And Tech isn't even on track to win a NC in any team sport. It's not like they're even knocking on the door with anything. Have they even made the quarterfinals of any team sports recently? I can't remember them making it far in the NCAA tourney for any team sport that I've seen for a really long time.

We also have archery championships but again, not NCAA sanctioned so it counts as much as their bass fishing titles do.

Tech did just have a wrestler win an individual championship for his weight class this past season.

Quite frankly, I would rather see JMU womens basketball vs the Hokies and JMU men's basketball vs the Hokies than the football matchup in 2020.

From an NCAA viewpoint this is true. I view Archery and the other Varsity sports that were cut to meet Title IX requirements a bit differently than club fishing.

Fishing is a skill, but feels closer to a hobby (like many club sports are), than a true athletic competition. Archery is an Olympic sport.

To save money and comply with Title IX, just combine into one...

JMU would have another national championship if we had a fishing team when I was there

Bowfishing sounds like loads of fun! Our club fishing and archery programs could get together and do this. I would totally join if I was a student. Tech has no archery though, so no chance to schedule them.

Archery at JMU seems to still be a leading program nationally, more than I realized:
72 All Americans
46 Archers with National Championship titles (team + individual)
14 World Champions
1 Olympic silver medalist (2012)

That’s damn impressive.
Also, the Indoor Nationals are hosted at JMU.

JMU Archery is one of the top programs in the country. If it was an NCAA-sponsored sport, we would still have a varsity team and would be winning D1 national championships.

I don't get anyone not wanting JMU vs VT in football. VT is garbage right now, even by VT standards. Dukes would win again.

Both Tech and UVA know their programs aren't guaranteed wins and ours is on the rise. They're dodging us for a reason.

I'd easily take NDSU at home versus a game at Tech.

The admins know that, but the fans are another story. The fans only want to play us for one reason: revenge. If they had any respect for our program, they wouldn't want any part of us right now.
Perhaps they'll understand after we face WVU.

Oh yeah I for sure know why VT and UVA don't want it. I was talking about a few JMU fans mentioning they wouldn't want it.

wsva 55am should get a media award for fcs coverage.
They are masters at trying to build up the fcs into something it is not outside of very few programs.

wsva is commenting on Towson's Ambrose complementing Bourne basically stateing JMU outspends everybody in the CAA. JMU has 10x better facilities. Good on Bourne. wsva talked about this board and mentioned Bourne catches hell not deserved. wsva said the board bashers don't know where this program is going...agreed. It is not for lack of asking.

I will now, where are JMU athletics headed? We have spent $200M on facilities, it a fair question and deserves a transparent answer.

It is a very good question. To be honest, I don't even know what I'd prefer.
