WHEN (not if) we go 15-0 that means we’ll have won the national championship. Why would any coach leave after that? Has that ever happened?

Imagine the offers he'd get from other power programs so UC would have to pony up big time. Not just his salary but assistants' pool and other bennies and perks. Damn good problem to have if you ask me.

To me it's go at least 3-1 nonconference and win the east. I'd be disappointed with anything less than 9-3 this year. I think 9-3/10-2 seem like the median regular season records for this team. 8-4 or 7-5 seem like worst case scenario season. 11 wins plus would be awesome, best case stuff.

I really believe that UC's chances for winning the East couldn't be any better or timely and I agree that this is both a realistic and achievable goal. As I posted in the OP, winning the home games against UCF and Temple are par for winning that course since UCF and Temple have easier conference schedules:

UCF
UConn
@Cincinnati
ECU
@Temple
Houston
@Tulsa
@Tulane
USF

Temple
@ECU
Memphis
@SMU
UCF
@USF
Tulane
@Cincinnati
UConn

We have to defend our home field so in the case of a tiebreaker [head-to-head] with either UCF/Temple we can still win the East.

Frost went undefeated at UCF and left for what, these days, is a decidedly middle of the road Nebraska program.

UCF was the national champion (in their own minds) in that case.

We can dream and hope that Fickell will be our Frank Beamer. But the key to long term, sustained success for UC remains P5 entry and the revenue and prestige that accompanies that platform.

Hard to blame someone for leaving to coach at their alma mater, even if they have been down for the past 15 years. Nebraska has more pull, money, boosters, and tradition than UCF will ever have in our lifetimes.

I don't think Frost takes that job if it were not for his strong ties to the program and the area.

BK openly said he would not have left UC for ND prior to the bowl game if they had been playing for the National Championship. It doesn't mean he wouldn't have left for ND after the game - his dream job and a program with deep tradition.

I'm not a Kelly hater...but that was an easy thing for him to say since it was purely hypothetical. I have been told that Notre Dame was more the villain in that deal than Kelly--as in take the job effective immediately or we're moving on. If so, pretty bush league on their part. Frost did it right, staying to finish the job at UCF after having already accepted the Nebraska job. He earned my respect with that move.

Pretty sure if BK had the opportunity to do something that historic (play for a national championship at Cincinnati) he would have had to do it. No coach would turn that chance down. You'd be a legend of the game immediately.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what ND told him, HOWEVER, I'm guessing their tune would be different if their future coach was about to play for a National Championship. ND would get a lot of free advertising in that situation. It is what it is. That 1 second at the end of Texas / Nebraska changes so much.

RE: Bearcats Football Will Enjoy A Special Season
If a G5 coach wins a Championship you're in completely unprecedented waters. Suddenly your program starts a solid push for P5 status based on performance alone and, I mean think about it, it might be enough for someone to bite. What conference wouldn't love to justify an expansion with the defending national champs?

Anyways, at that point the BOT will have given the AD free reign to blow it all on the football program. National Championship runs do wonders for admissions.

Bearcats getting a little love from espn
I hope they are right

Game to beware for each Top 25 college football team

5. Ohio State: Sept. 7 vs. Cincinnati

Are the Bearcats the toughest team on Ohio State's schedule? No. But former Buckeye Luke Fickell will still have more head-coaching appearances in the Horseshoe than Ryan Day when this game kicks off. Fickell will be bringing a very solid group with him to try to upset a young Ohio State team that has a lot to figure out before this legitimate test early in September. -- Dan Murphy

btw, I think we are the toughest team on Ohio State's schedule!

Who knows if this will matter in the end but I do like the fact that we play UCLA prior to Ohio State instead of a cupcake like Tennessee State Tech. Chip's squad will be improved since last year and they will be a good test for us before entering C-Town.

If UC beats Ohio State in football, I will drive around with a 50ft inflatable Bearcat on my car roof for a week.

Wow. Where do you get those? My Amazon search came up empty.

The inflatable would be a lot more fun than hanging a UC flag on my mailbox.

I have an 8 foot inflatable Bearcat, and have figured out how to plug it into the 120 V outlet in my hybrid and secure it to the roof rack. I may have to partially deflate it to get under some electrical wires in town.

C'mon dudes. You can do better than that. A lot better if Cincinnati beats Ohio State. When was the last time they lost to an Ohio football team? Pretty damn long ago if no one can remember without looking it up. If our Bearcats leave C-Town victorious you need to strip down to your bare asses and paint yourselves red and black. Then, only wearing a red cape, black mask, and sock jock, run around your neighborhood shouting and screaming Ohhhhhhhh, Ohhhhhhhh, Ohhhhhhhhh, [clap, clap, clap, clap], UC!!!

I didn't look this up, but Oberlin was the last in-state school to beat OSU in the early 1920s (1921 IIRC). UC last beat OSU in our magic season of 1898- a season in which we also beat LSU 28-0 in a "post-season" exhibition in New Orleans.

I would love to see us beat OSU this fall. I think we'd find a lot of "at a boy's" from across the state and obviously nationally, but I bet we'd see a lot of butt-hurt within the 513 from the OSU fans.

I seem to remember it was Oberlin but had no clue on the year. I wonder if most Bucknuts would feel losing to Cincinnati would be preferable to Kent St., MyAmUh Oh, Bowling Green, et al. Plus, the Luke Fickell connection both as a former player and coach - and Marcus Freeman [former player] - might soften the blow some. All I know is if you play enough Ohio teams you're bound by the law of averages to lose once in great while...might as well be in September.

Maybe start with a shed and go from there? Hey, we could all pull an Animal House and buy a clunker and paint it the "BearcatMobile" and meet somewhere to post-game tailgate and compare our creativity. Someone could convert an RV LOL!
