I think your last comment is a pretty absurd mischaracterization of anyone who posts from the right as lacking humanity. I find most right-leaning posters are actually more concerned about humanity, because of their understanding that the measures proposed by the left have proved historically to be among the most destructive to humanity. The left's ideas sound great in theory. And in theory, theory works well in practice. But in practice, it doesn't. And the ideas from the right generally come closer to what has actually worked to benefit humanity--all humanity--in the real world.

I've known for many years that you lean left. But you've always struck me as a relatively reasonable leftist. You've certainly not hesitated to point out differences with those who lean further left. Going to Rice and being around Rice, I've known a lot of people that I would describe similarly, left-leaning but reasonable about it (and I know you didn't go to Rice, but you've spent enough time there to know what I'm talking about). What I don't understand is why so many of those reasonable leftists have so fully embraced a radical left agenda, just because their party seems to be going there. I know it is fashionable to say that Reagan couldn't run on today's republican platform, but JFK couldn't get to first base with today's democrat platform, and Bill Clinton has had to move way left of President Bill to remain relevant in the party. If democrats nominated someone who was fiscally responsible and pro-growth (as they have in the past, see JFK or President Bill), I would consider going there instead of Trump's populism. But no matter how much I don't care for Trump, there is nobody in the democrat field without multiple show-stoppers for me.

So my question for you is, how did democrats move so quickly from the fiscal responsibility and pro-growth agenda of JFK or Bill Clinton to today's radical Green New Deal agenda, and why have so many people that I once considered to be reasonable leftists followed like lemmings?

In my day they were called, "Navel Gazers". They never lifted a finger but were satisfied they had done marvelously by staring at their navel and pontificating the solutions to all of the worlds problems without realizing that it's the narcissistically lazy who create most of them, solve none of them, and get in the way of the productive.
