What a bullshat recruiting site. They have every single one of your players ranked as 3 stars. That site doesn't have any credibility. Their formula just gives every recruit 3 stars, but keep posting away. Hopefully, y'all can move up in the Rivals rankings and then you will start posting about that.

Rivals is the site that is useless. Their staff is so depleted that they cant even rank many players at all just for lack of manpower. Most of our recruits have no rating at all from them. Rivals time has passed.

Up until recent, I thought the same. However, Rivals seems more accurate than 247 does at the moment.

247 doesn't show all our commits and Rivals does. The number of offers recruits have are different for between the 2 sites as well.

Datravien Girod (247: 3* 2 offers, rivals: 3* 4 offers)
Dontavious Turner (247: 3* 3 offers, rivals: NR 4 offers)
Derohn King (247: 3* 8 offers, rivals: 3* 9 offers)
Michael Pleas (247: 3* 5 offers, rivals: 2* 3 offers)
Justyn Mack (247: not listed, rivals: NR 1 offer)

Rivals is only useful for those teams that have paid staff members. UNT's doesn't so the recruits get less attention/lower/no ratings.

That's why teams like USM, LaTech, and UTSA are all better off in Rivals, they have paid staff to specifically cover those teams. We have a couple paid guys for 247 and it makes a difference in how they rate our recruits.

Pay somebody enough and they'll rate all your guys higher than they actually are

The only site any fanbase is going to find useful is the one that has a paid subscription service. That's why you find rivals to be better because USM has said service on rivals. The P5 schools usually have coverage on both websites leading to fairer rankings. Rivals has no incentive to rank our commits above 5.5 or w/e it is to make a player 3 stars since we don't make them money. They have all the incentive in the world do that for the schools that do.

If you cared to look through our commits instead of lazily glancing and making an assumption you would see that almost all have multiple FBS offers. That is more important than one extra star next to a name anyways. We have convinced 15 kids who have options to shut it down in Mid June and can turn some efforts towards 2021. It's unprecedented for us but indicative of the direction we are going as a program. Maybe another CUSA school passes us by signing day, maybe not doesn't make our efforts thus far any less impressive.

That is some mighty green Koolaid you are drinking on this 247 stuff.
1. UNT has the "35th ranked class in FBS" (highest in CUSA) per 247. lol
2. Four C-USA teams have an average player rating higher than UNT's, yet UNT's class is #1 in C-USA. lol
3. UNT has 15 commitments and that is the ONLY reason 247 ranks you higher than all other C-USA teams; they are just counting "total points". Several of the other C-USA teams' commitments aren't even counted by 247 yet; LA Tech for example has 11 commits not 9.

It is clearly summertime, come on football season!

Recruiting used to be really fun to follow. But they've absolutely watered it down. Too many three star cats.

Also, we usually do very well in recruiting. I'm confident that come signing day we will be near the top again.

Football recruiting is worthless.....Everyone is a 3 star pretty much....College football is all about coaching and schemes and how the players you recruit are developed and fit into your system....None of us are getting 5 stars....

RE: 2020 C-USA Recruiting Thread
The 3-star recruit is now what the 2-star used to be. The 2-star is now what the unranked used to be. The only star ratings that tend to accurately reflect the quality of recruits the most are 4-5 star kids. This isn't to say that UR, 2-3 star kids can't have successful collegiate careers and get drafted because we see it happen every year...it's just not nearly as common as kids getting drafted that happened to be 4-5 star ranked. On the flip-side, not all 4-5 star kids have super productive collegiate careers and get drafted. Many of them are busts...but not nearly as often as UR, 2-3 stars that tend to be complete non-factor pine riders. The majority of kids who have productive collegiate careers and end up getting drafted more than likely had LOTS of other quality offers out of HS...this is why instead of paying attention to the # of stars a kid has I pay A LOT MORE attention to what other offers the kid has. I think if we really wanted to analyze the quality of the recruit and compare commit lists then what we'd do is compare "other offers" and establish a more reasonable weight/ranking system based on offers. I can't tell you how many times I've seen kids that are ranked 2-stars but have multiple P5 offers along with numerous G5 offers...and simultaneously I'll see 3 (sometimes even 4) star kids with ONE P5 offer...

RE: 2020 C-USA Recruiting Thread
I think there is some additional information that can be gained from the numerical rating of a prospect compared to the categorical star-rating. For example, on 247 Sports, there is a large difference between a prospect with a 0.89 composite score compare to a 0.80, but yet both are rated as a 3-star prospect. This is where things like the average recruit ranking come into play as well as the overall class score. Of course, things like the overall class score will be biased by class sizes, which is especially true early in the recruiting period.

For those who do like the categorical system, I would propose splitting 3-star prospects into those with composite scores above 0.85 and those below. It would be interesting to see how many "high 3-star" (maybe some would claim "true" 3-star prospects) teams in C-USA have.

Here's USM's recruit class without the # of stars but instead who they have other offers from (using combined info from Rivals and 247):

-5'11 178 WR Dartravien Girod: offers from Kansas, ULL, & ULM
-6'2 200 QB Derohn King: offers from Florida, UCF, FAU, FIU, Tulane, Akron, Bowling Green, & FAMU.
-6'3 213 OLB Michael Please: offers from FIU, FAMU, Alabama A&M, & Morgan State
-6'0 180 ATH Dontavious Turner: offers from UAB, Ark State, South Alabama, ULM, & Alcorn State
-6'1 270 C Justyn Mack: only offer is Southern Miss

With the exception of the QB, this is a pretty weak class thus far, but according to 247, these kids are all rated 3-stars....so go figure.

Well, first of all the recruiting season is young. And secondly, this class has nothing to do with last year's struggles, which was OL run blocking. The big boys just couldn't get a push. Thank god Hop fired both our S/C coord. and OL coach. The talent is there...again, we were 7 points away from going 9-2 and hosting the CUSA championship and we return almost everyone from last year's team w/ the addition of some good o-linemen we signed. I predict we'll have 10 wins this year and a CUSA 'ship because of the experience we have returning, the OL class we signed, and the off-season coaching moves Hop made. We're going to surprise a lot of people this year.

The true measure of a recruiting class is championships.

Therefore I’d like to congratulate our newly crowned 2014 CUSA recruiting champions, MTSU! Come on up to the mic and tell us your thoughts about the title!
MTSU: “Dammit, UAB!!!”
