2020 C-USA Recruiting Thread
I had been posting recruiting information on the Rice thread, but it was derailing the main topic. If you have information on C-USA recruiting please post it.
North Texas and Rice are up early, but UTSA appears to have landed the highest rated player so far.

RE: 2020 C-USA Recruiting Thread
I do not understand these rankings one bit. All of North Texas' commits have 3-star ratings. However, out of all TEN of their commits....only ONE commit has an offer from a power 5 school, Loronzo Thompson, and his lone offer form a P5 school is from Baylor. Not knocking UNT at all I'm just confused at the rating system. UNT's highest rated commit is a 6'5 245 OT. And he only has offers from UNT, New Mexico State, and Northern Colorado. Yet, he's rated a 3-star recruit....go figure.

Speaking of offers....
FIU has picked up a few commitments earlier than last year. A couple of these guys are big-time gets. Jose Mirabal, a 6'4" 285 OG reportedly has offers from FSU, UGA, GT, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Pitt, Tenn, and WVU, among others. He is highly-rated. Another current commit, Xavier McGriff, a 6'2" WR, reportedly holds offers from UNC, Ole Miss, Oregon, Rutgers, SC, Va Tech, Wake, FSU, Nebraska, Kentucky, and Iowa St., among others.

I think FIU has good shot to have the top class in the conference when all is said and done. Butch is pursuing some quality athletes.

Idk if this is the case in this particular instance or not, but if a school has a good/active 247 site, they will rate players fairly quickly after a commitment. Ratings change as other services weigh in as the season progresses and are reflected in the composite rating. Early commits with one or two offers tend to be 247 ratings and as more evaluations come in, the composite either moves up or down. Not sure if this applies in this particular situation, but this has been my observation over the last couple of years anyway. TIFWIW

Finally got a rating for FAU's lone recruit at this point. Has no significant offers other than FAU. Not surprisingly it is a 3-star recruit, however. Are there any other kind?

With the age of the internet and Youtube, diamonds in the rough are hard to come by. When evaluating prospects, I tend to rely more and more each year on the metric "who else is offering this kid". I feel much better about kids who've got an impressive list of offers regardless of what they are rated.

Southern Miss doesn't recruit Texas heavily. Last season they only signed 2 players out of Texas. As of now, North Texas has commitments from 2 Texas players (QB-Renfro & WR-Thompson) that were holding offers from Southern Miss. The recruiting staff at USM must see something in the players we are after. In fact several of our commits were holding offers from other C-USA programs (USM, LA Tech, UTSA, & WKU).
I don't know the ends and outs of our recruiting philosophy, but judging from last years haul, and what we are doing this year, I'm excited to see what these players will bring to our program.

DRC article on North Texas recruiting philosophy...
UNT leading the country in commitments among G5 programs
Spring has been a busy time for the North Texas football program, and we're not talking about spring practice.
The Mean Green are bringing in players at a frantic pace when it comes to recruiting for its 2020 class.
The number grew to 10 last night when offensive linemen Cade Bond of Magnolia and Erik Williams of Lubbock Coronado committed to continue their careers at UNT and gave the Mean Green an overlooked distinction.
No Group of Five program has landed more 2020 recruits than UNT.
None of the programs looking to capitalize on bowl wins or the programs with new coaches riding the excitement surrounding a change in leadership.
No one.

I agree. If a kid has a meaningful P5 offer, there's a good chance that he can play. Rice likes to offer scholarships to the kids who are on Duke, Stanford, and Northwestern's preferred walk-on list. We've grabbed a handful.
As far as Rice being #2 right now, it's meaningless. We'll end up in the middle of the conference somewhere, which would be a big improvement. Often times our recruits are downgraded by a star when recruiting services see that they committed to Rice. They assume that they must not be very good if Rice landed them. It's bull.

Lol get over yourself, USM coaches aren't following who UNT coaches are recruiting...they're just offering kids who they think will fit their system who just so happen to have an offer from UNT among many others.

Southern Miss offered over 500 kids last year, FWIW.

If you want objective recruiting analysis view the average ratings on https://n.rivals.com/team_rankings/2020/cusa/football . 247 uses no logic and is very subject to homer fandom influence by it's contributors.
Recruiting isn't a race to see who can get as many commitments as quickly as they can, it is about the QUALITY of the recruits regardless of how quickly or slowly they commit.

It may not mean much, but I'd definitely choose USM over UNT. There's more tradition and great home attendance. The game day environment is incredible. Easy choice. No offense to UNT.

None of that matters more than winning.

LOL. "Use an objective site like Rivals". Rivals is even worse than 24/7. UTSA is consistently top 3 in rivals ratings because they have a paid recruiting guy/site, same with LaTech, and those ratings are definitely skewed in their favor. UNT doesn't have one for Rivals and 6 out of our 10 commits don't even have a rating. 24/7 composite ratings take into account all the major recruiting services, so even with a "0" rating from Rivals, they're still rated as 3 star recruits.
Edit: I checked and a lot of 24/7 ratings are the only ratings used for the commits on 24/7 but my point still stands. Most of UNT's commits have multiple D1 offers just like LaTech's
