Flip is word people will use, but Taggart moved on when he got realized FAU has 9 RB's on scholarship and 4 were true freshmen.

A bit of roster mismanagement led to FAU having to pass on a good player for bigger needs.

I saw Gore play and have interviewed a few times he is an unreal talent and a good kid.

Enjoy.

Frank Gore Jr had an official visit to USM on 12/6, well before Taggart was ever hired.

RE: 2020 C-USA Recruiting Thread
Remember this name. Grady Robison. 6’1 180 lb dual threat QB out of Washington State. I heard Helton’s older brother put us on him. He’d committed to Montana State but was starting to get FBS looks. I’m surprised we could drag a kid that far across the country.

I’m sure Helton will bring in a Grad QB like he did with Storey but I would be tempted to hand the ball to this kid as a true freshman. I know everyone looks great in their highlights but I really like what I see out of this kid.

But well after FAU had a crowd at RB.

I get it. Just pointing out that Gore leaving wasn't because of Taggart. Probably more about Kiffin leaving.

Ya'll might have noticed that we moved a receiver to running back, and his backup was a walk-on. We've obviously whiffed on RB recruits since Ito graduated. Gore and Ragsdale will get immediate looks. Ragsdale will be in for Spring. 11 signees in for Spring.

I know these ratings and the value of the player on the team/ in the system is subjective, but I was looking at which teams had recruits rated 0.8500 or higher. I think this is a mid 3* grading. Used 247 for data. CUSA w/ 16 players and SBC w/ 7.

The only thing better is after the Spring Game...every team is full of all conference and possible all americans in the making.

Then the season starts

Recruiting is about recruiting players that fit your system. Getting the player that has all the heart but not the size, then they get in the weight room. Coaching up players to work in your system.

At Western we had way more former 2 star players to turn into stars than 3 star or the transfer 4 star. A team might get a big strong OLine player that can block in a power run attack. But that same player cant get off the line in the spread.

system, heart, coaching up...that's recruiting

I concur.

Here, at FAU, no one knew some walk-on from Georgia, Harrison Bryant, would flower into the All-American TE.

I think most - maybe all - of the schools in this conference have to depend on developing talent more than signing it.

I'd rather have a stable full of 3*/4* players than 2*. I'm sure the 3* players are just as coachable as the 2*.

And if someone posts some stats about a team that has recruited #1 in CUSA, but finished 7-5... I could just as easily argue they would have finished 5-7 if they had recruited #4 in CUSA.

Same if they had won a CC with the #4 recruiting class in CUSA. Could argue they would have won an Access bowl if they had been #1.

I agree about the three stars. There just seems to be more of them the last 5 or so years. 0* Walk on All Americans happen, but are not the norm. Memphis has had about as good a track record with PWOs as anyone, but can't count on that for future production. FWIW, I caught the end of an interview with the Ole Miss Rivals guy who said Lane Kiffin's national vs. MS Made focused recruiting would help Memphis...have to think it'll help USM as well.

You can point to anything but it does mean its based in facts. Marshall and USM had the top classes in CUSA for about 5 straight year. Tell me how many times you finished at the top?

I could make the argument you would be a girl if you didnt have balls. But then you can make the argument...balls make no difference. It would still be an argument based on opinion and not facts. In most cases there's not a lot if any difference between a 2 or 3 star...most 3 star players are rated .800 to .819. Not any of us are getting 50 to 75% .850 to .889 3star players

90% of all of our recruits are not getting enough looks by those rating them to be based on any objectively.

USM had a total of 26 3 star players in 2010 class (48TH NATIONALLY) so most played in 2012-2013-2014-2015. That class won a total of 13 games over the 4 years with 9 of those in 2015.

2011 USM was 3rd in CUSA
2012 usm was 1st in CUSA (68th NATIONALLY)
2013 USM was 2nd in CUSA

Two of the top G5 classes in 2010 and 2012 along with 2 other 2nd and 3rd CUSA and USM won

Like I said you can argue anything you want and you probably will but not with any facts backing you up on winning football games.

Not any of us are recruiting high enough for it to make that big of a difference . Coaches that run the correct system and recruit well to that system...wins in CUSA. Coaching matters in winning at the top. Good recruiting classes might keep you from the bottom....without system and coach

Recruiting is like getting married - you think it is great when you sign up, then a few years later...not so much.

Found this link interesting. I was surprised that FAU spent most in CUSA recruiting since they were in FL with all the instate talent. Must of been the travel in recruiting the JUCO players.
