Good news.

On a different note it'll be the AAC for just this one year apparently. Anyone else hoping Rod Carey gets sent there again?

Amazing stat is that the MAC only won 2 bowl games over the last 3 years. Both wins were from Ohio. 11 MAC schools have not won a bowl game in over 3 years.

I think our new coach actually cares if we win a bowl game. So maybe we might win one eventually.

MAC schools rarely win games in NCAA tournaments either (CMU baseball won first game in CWS last week and then got sent home 7-2, 18-3 by Mississippi State).

Face it, our league is bottom of G5 with the occasional exception (NIU Orange Bowl team, our Cotton Bowl team).

Yes and we should never bother to try striving for more!

I'm sure all the MAC schools-programs are "striving for more" or at least to "be the best they can be" with the resources at their disposal.

Perhaps YOU have a plan that will accomplish what hasn't been consistently done in the history of the league?

We had this conversation already and when I directly answered your question you ignored me.

Acting like I should have all the answers or plans because I have expectations is a useless strawman, though I have laid out some specifics that I believe could be improved upon.

WMU spends more on athletics than any other MAC school according to the most recent data. The football program has recruited at the top of the conference for years. I think having expectations to be the class of the MAC is realistic.

RE: MAC Is now a primary tie-in to the Quick Lane Bowl
Being the "class of the MAC" while realistic doesn't put us at the top of G5 much less near P5.

And I wasn't just talking football.

Our men's tennis team for example dominates MAC and got shut out in NCAA first round by Illinois this spring.

There's a reason MAC is a one-bid league in basketball, baseball, etc.

If you believe we're spending enough money to CONSISTENTLY win in post-season then obviously the problem lies elsewhere.

And not just here but at all MAC schools-programs.

I don't necessarily disagree, until the AAC is inevitably poached by the P5 they have the resources to consistently be at the top of the G5. We are pretty much in line with the rest of G5 though.

I'm not saying we should always be the top G5 athletics program. I'm saying I believe we are underperforming as a whole. I don't particularly care what all the other MAC schools are doing. Only a few are in our neighborhood when it comes to financial commitment.

So you are saying our athletic program(s) suffers from poor leadership, vision, direction?

Perhaps you need to let AD, president, and-or BOT know.

Our tennis teams have the worst budget in the MAC. They frequently eat fast food on the road, Wendy's especially. I was shocked when I heard coach Morin turned down the Minnesota tennis job

RE: MAC Is now a primary tie-in to the Quick Lane Bowl
It's been tough watching our "MAC dynasty" tennis team get throttled every time we step into the NCAA tournament. Although it appears we are always playing P5 opponents.

The thing with the MAC's football bowls is that most opponents are peer G5 teams, so our terrible bowl record is particularly head-scratching. I mean App State is very good, but when they beat our 2017 MAC champ Toledo 34-0, something seems off.

Are our northern teams too "happy to be" at touristy destinations while our (usually) southern opponents treat it more like business? I dunno. But while the conference has never been world-beaters, we seem to fare better against these same conferences during the September OOC portion of our schedules. But go belly-up in late December.

In Toledo's blow out loss to App State, the Rockets turned the FB over 3 times that led to 17 points. Two of those turnovers were in the Red Zone that were short field TD's. Rockets had lost both starting OG's for the season. The Mountainers took advantage of that with their speed along the DL and blitzing the gaps. Combine that with some critical drops, you have one of the worst games Toledo has played this century. Toledo's 38-10 loss at Ohio was a perfect road map for App State to follow for their gameplan.

I've thought this in NIU's case. We just don't seem prepared or particularly fired up. It's like we're playing a Pro Bowl and our opponent is playing a Superbowl.

Congrats...as it should be. Most of your schools can drive to Detroit.

ACC teams never wanted to go to Detroit for obvious reasons (too far away and travel weather concerns).
