RE: 2019-20 offseason baseball discussion
Charlotte had 1 recruit and 1 senior drafted.

HS recruit RHP Tyler Driver was drafted in the 18th Round by the Mariners. I'm guessing he's looking at $50-100k in that slot? Hopefully he comes to school because we desperately need some arms.

Senior Catcher Harris Yett was drafted by the Orioles in the 32nd Round.

Players taken for USM: Wallner (CBA-39-MIN) and Keys (23-684-CIN). Signees: Cody Milligan (9-277-ATL), Dallas Dyar (21-630-PHI), and Michael Brewer (32-955-TEX).

Milligan almost certainly gone, Dyar probably gone, and Brewer probably sticking with his commitment. USM will need to hit the portal or get a JUCO catcher because Milligan was expected to be the guy behind the plate.

I know next to nothing about baseball, but it seems crazy that a guy can go as the ~900th player. Does the GM on teams really stick around that long to make selections?

clt says they just put it on autodraft

In an online article from the Sun Herald, coach Berry said Dyar is going pro and we’re still waiting to see what Milligan and Brewer will do. Milligan seems like a coin flip while Brewer appears likely to play here.

Why would you go pro from the 21st round? The signing bonus at that point is meager.

my only guess (and truly grasping for an explanation) is that he really really didn't want to go to college and we were his fallback plan if he didn't get drafted. But I completely agree with your question/answer and was wondering the same thing.

Any scheduling rumors for league schools? Nothing for USM. I’ll try to get the scheduling sheet up and running soon.

UTSA was looking hard at hiring Greg Goff but he went to Purdue. Clay Van Hook in the mix there now. He was at Rice and now is at OU.

Tyler Driver took the $$$.

Rice is @OU. Not sure beyond that.

From newspaper articles and local talk it appears USM will be going to an all turf field before next season. In the last few seasons especially we’ve had to postpone games on days where it ended up being gorgeous weather but the outfield was unplayable due to heavy rains the day or two beforehand.

Cory Barton in the mix at UTSA.

There's mutual interest between Bradley LeCroy and Charlotte. He's an assistant at Clemson.

I talked to Pirates scout that says that along with a bonus they can offer kids college tuitions to get college juniors to go pro. I’m not sure how it works for high school kids.

Anything is negotiable. Most HS kids (if they are smart) have it written in their contract that if and when they don't make the show that the club is on the hook for their tuition if they go back.

1st pitch, 1st swing for Elvis Peralta is a Home Run in his debut with the Arizona League Athletics Gold Team.

RE: 2019-20 offseason baseball discussion
USM’s projected C/DH as well as 3/4 hole hitter Bryant Bowen announced via his twitter account he was transferring to South Carolina as a grad transfer. Sounds like more to the story as HC Berry “got word of it from a staff member and Bowen had yet to call Berry”.

USM signee Cody Milligan (catcher) who was a 9th round pick of Atlanta has now signed so he’s not coming.

The only other catcher is set to transfer meaning next year's catcher will be a newbie altogether.

It used to go against their cap. Now they can send a kid, even an Ivy League kid back to school for a coup,e of years if they come out as a junior. Kind of a safety net. I’m not sure how it works with high school kids.

USM's offense is going to be really iffy next season. We lose our 3 biggest home run hitters. There's a chance we'll be starting 7 true freshmen/sophomores. Maybe 3 or 4 true freshmen.

- We had 10 seniors this past season
- Wallner got drafted
- 3 others that we know of have left or rumored to be leaving...Bowen (starter), McGrew (backup catcher but never got an action), Warren (pitcher who only threw 2.2 innings, was a 20th round pick last season but turned it down)
