Disturbing story on MLK and FBI
https://standpointmag.co.uk/issues/june-...ther-king/
Article goes into great detail on the FBI surveillance of MLK. Disturbing article on 2 levels. One-MLK's behavior. Two-the extent of the FBI surveillance of not just him, but other groups (21% of Black Panther Party members in 1971 were FBI informants).

I heard something on this the other day and I believe that the person doing the surveillance on MLK had issues with him and was proven to embellish details or lie on African Americans... I can't remember his name or what the exact phrasing they used when discussing him, but he's not held in high regard.

Aside from Hoover himself, the 3 top executives at the FBI during the 1963-68 era were William Mark Felt, Cartha “Deke” DeLoach, and William C. Sullivan. All of them had “involvement” to varying degrees in the COINTELPRO program, Sullivan most of all. None of them were exactly favorable to the Civil Rights Movement.
In 1971, Sullivan fell prey to one of Hoover’s periodic purges of FBI personnel. In 1977, he was shot and killed while walking through a remote area of woods in New Hampshire at age 68 or thereabouts. The shooting was attributed to a young college-age man who (supposedly) mistook Sullivan for deer. He was gradually forgotten to all but the most obsessive history-buffs.
Then in 2007, the reporter/pundit Bob Novak published his autobiography “Prince of Darkness”, in which he revealed that Sullivan had been one of his regular sources of information for many years. In 1972, Novak wrote, Sullivan had told him “Someday you’ll read about my accidental death in the newspapers. Don’t believe it. It will be a murder.”

They have tapes that have confirmed many of the notes. As I said, its a very detailed article.

This is why I have said repeatedly---the abuse of the FBI/CIA intelligence arms is not unprecedented. Its happened before. Hoover was fricken nuts and ran the FBI with an iron hand. Ive always heard he had a dossier on Kennedy. So--spying on presidents is not new. What makes this time so scary is this time Im almost certain the spying had to be coordinated by the Obama White House. Too many different agencies (as well as WH officials) involved for there to be no WH knowledge or coordination.

LBJ did have Goldwater's Republican convention spied on. He also had Nixon spied on in 1968. Those were coordinated by LBJ. That's why you can understand how Nixon didn't think the Watergate coverup was a huge deal. The reforms of the 70s and J. Edgar finally dying were supposed to have done away with this stuff.

I think Hoover had dossiers on just about everyone in D.C. and not just D.C. ... But who can doubt that the Kennedy dossier was the size of Encyclopedia Britannica.
Hoover was made Director in 1924 by President Coolidge. I don’t think he was “nuts” at that point in time. But he had definitely passed his sell-by date by the time Kennedy took office in 1961. Hoover’s feud with the Attorney General was openly acknowledged and talked-about in the media while it was still happening. We can only surmise JFK’s reasons for letting Hoover stay in office, although I’d be curious to hear any other explanation besides the obvious one, that if Hoover had been fired, all the dirty laundry that Kennedy and his family had accumulated over the years would suddenly appear in the press.

RE: Disturbing story on MLK and FBI

Left leaning Politico's take on the MLK story. Of course he calls right leaning papers trolls. He doesn't understand they are trying to make a point that leftists can't comprehend when dealing with anyone other than leftists. He does call out WaPo and the rest of the MSM for whitewashing or ignoring the story.
“"...It was Mr. King whose quest for black economic and social progress started this nation on the road to full integration—the most dynamic step forward in the status of the races since the Civil War. His courage in breaking down racial taboos and facing down opponents of integration, his unwavering insistence on a peaceful revolution, the elevating power of his message to the nation are beyond question.” So opined the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal in 1990, days after the same paper brought King’s plagiarism to light. “We suspect Mr. King’s reputation will outlast the questions now being raised,” it concluded. That judgment—from a leading conservative opinion outlet of the day—seems far more sensible than the troll-like schadenfreude peppering right-wing media in the last few days. They are words we should bear in mind again today."
