3-D Nippert Stadium
The 10th anniversary of the 2009 Bearcat football team is upon us and the bobble head/statue of Pike to Binns is great. However to the technologically challenge Bearcat fans is it possible and within reasonable cost to used a 3-D printer and print out a model for Nippert that would be fan worthy(meaning give to the fans at a game/sell it in the bookstore)?05-stirthepot

Are you talking about you doing that, or the athletic department? If you do that, and actually sell it to people, the University will probably be sending a cease and desist pretty quickly.

RE: 3-D Nippert Stadium
I don't have an answer to the question asked... but I do have a question of my own that I've been dying to ask everyone on here.

If you haven't seen the movie "Monster University", please see it.

For those who have seen it, did anyone think that their football stadium where they held the scare games look more than coincidentally like the old configuration of Nippert?

The stands, end zone, the way it was sunk down in the middle of campus. They even had a Schmidlapp looking building at the end of it, too.

I mean, it looked so much like Nipper that it was... scary.

...No pun intended there.

That may be due to multiple E-Media grads being on the production staff at Pixar.

My guess is, with the rising popularity of UC football, the University will license a vendor to produce a Nippert Stadium 3-D collectible replica. Many major football programs have these for sale. UC already has some excellent framed photo depictions of Nippert--the most recent is from the UC victory over Miami (FL) as I recall.

There is probably more licensed merchandise for the Bearcats now than at anytime in the University's 200 year history. Still, we trail traditional powers such as OSU, Michigan or Texas in terms of the variety of items licensed as well as the number of retailers. The fix for that is simple, but not easy. Create more demand by growing the fanbase. Grow the fanbase by fielding excellent teams across multiple sports.

We may have just witnessed the best overall year for athletics in UC history. Sustain that kind of broad based success and watch the variety of products and the number of retail outlets grow. It's just one more way of expanding UC's footprint outside I-275.

I am just speculating. I think it would be nice/neat addition for the 2009 celebration. I do not have the skill set to accomplish it. I have seen the photos and did get an estimate to try and do a Nippert Stadium in the man cave, but it was prohibitive.COGS

I doubt that UC would have something like this commissioned. The folks in the licensing department are so stingy when it comes to letting outside vendors produce products with the UC logos or images and I have no idea why. I hope they would let something like this come to pass, as I would buy one in a heartbeat, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I would think it would probably be a better promotion in 2024 for the 100th anniversary of the stadium as it currently stands. Makes more sense as that would be a celebration of the venue as opposed to a team.

Should be a bobblehead stadium, but instead of a head that bobbles the notches bobble.

I bought a huge portrait of Nippert that I believe was taken during the 2009 UCONN game. It is prerenovation and you can barely make out the scoreboard. I bought it at Du Bois about 6-7 years ago, and it's hanging at my house. It's very cool.

That may be due to multiple E-Media grads being on the production staff at Pixar.

The article below has pictures from the movie and best guesses on what campus was used for certain elements.

Quote:In preparation for the film, the California-based Pixar team took trips to local schools UC Berkeley and Stanford, and went across the country to check out Harvard, Princeton, and MIT.

These campus visits helped the animators create a collegiate environment that while not based on any one school, had a mix of California and East Coast university traditions, Robert Kondo, Monster University's Art Director for Set Design & Shading, told us.

Kondo told Business Insider that because a lot of the animators went to art school, they traveled to these campuses to get an understanding of a more all around university experience. More than looking at specific buildings, though, Kondo said — as only an art school grad could — that the team went to "absorb the feeling" of their element.

The movie has sparked some online debate over the buildings at Monsters University, as various students across the country try and claim specific landmarks as their own. This fits in pretty nicely with Pixar's goal of creating a unique yet relatable campus laden with "ritual" and "tradition."

Good find Senior. Thanks!

However... you're not going to get me to believe that someone somewhere in that crew wasn't thinking Nippert with the football stadium.
