The only super conference left is SEC. B1G is dead because Midwest is dead. See how many empty houses in that region. People are moving south.

That's an ignorant statement. The Midwest is far from dead. The South and Southwest are growing faster, playing catch up after the advent of the air conditioner but I assure you the Midwest is not dead. There are places that have been hit hard due to industry moving overseas but we are very much alive. The Big Ten is still a media darling because Midwesterners and folks accross the nation tune in in droves to watch Big a Ten football and basketball.

Last time I checked Columbus and suburbs is one of the fastest growing cities in the country now at 13th or 14th in population size.

It's not one of the fastest growing cities. 24 of the top 25 are in the south and west, the only exception is Fargo, North Dakota.

Al the transplants from Ohio have migrated to South Carolina. They are down there laughing at Kaploney as he screams at them and calls them a**holes.

Well, yeah, sure, Columbus' growth ranks higher if you count by actual numbers of people moving in, rather than by the percentage growth rate. Sure, the Columbus MSA added about 200,000 people between 2010 and 2018, compared to about 37,000 for the Fargo MSA ...
... but what's important for the economics of college sports is that the Fargo MSA grew by over 16% in that period, while the Columbus MSA grew by under 11%.

After all, if the numbers who moved in were more important, you would be able to sort the Wikipedia list of MSA populations by growth in numbers. Since you can only sort it by percentage growth, that proves that percentage is the only growth that matters, QED.

Now compare Columbus to Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, and Seattle.

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. E.g., Houston has always been WAY bigger than Columbus and yet Ohio State fills its stadium with 100,000 people, many paying huge dollars for luxury suites, etc. and there's nothing collegiate like that in the bigger and faster growing cities you mention.

Ohio State has never been bigger, stronger, and more robust, either as an institution or an athletic program.

Columbus has always equaled Cowtown. There sure is a lot of money here though. Wexner, Shottenstien, Galbraith etc...

It's a large city that loves its university. I think it was $100,000,000 that Wexner gave a few years back to the university. It's unique to say the least here in Columbus. I would also say that if anybody has been through here, maybe womens NCAA basketball tournament, Mens basketball tournament etc... They seem to always leave impressed with the infrastructure and people.

For that comparison, it's fewer on a head count.

Indeed, it would be unsurprising if there are some larger MSA's with lower percentage growth rates but larger population growth.

A larger issue for Columbus is that the increment in population growth over natural increase has been in-state, with out of state migration being a net outflow. So Columbus is primarily getting people moving in elsewhere in Ohio and some of those people are using it as a launching pad to elsewhere.

People are moving from Midwest to California, Texas and Florida. B1G is dead dead dead in year 2050, likely smaller than Mountain West.

Penn St will join the ACC. Louisville is why. It has been documented on this site how the allure of the ACC for Penn St primarily involves Louisville. Penn St will come to their senses and join their peer by 2050.

Pitt to the B1G by 2051 or 2151 then.

You heard it from me first.

For the same reason, Ohio State will join ACC with Penn State. Ohio State is not the original Big10 member. They don't need to be loyal to Big 10. Also Nebraska will rejoin Big 12.

When more and more people migrate to South, schools will feel pressure how to recruit in South to have a successful program. If Big 10 is smart, they will add Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech today.

Did Delany botch B1G expansion?

To get a good answer, just look at the dollars. The B1G is distributing more than anyone else. Even more than the SEC which has two income sources (ESPN and their CBS contract).
It's hard to understand the Rutgers/Maryland thing, but it pays big bucks and probably set up the B1G's next move.

Delany botched nothing. He set up the Big 10 for a bigger move East at some point in the future. And East is where the people are.

Okay, it's time for a movie quote from the 80's, "You're still here! It's over. Go Home."

These are Primary Statistical Areas (PSAs), which is not technically a US Census Bureau term but is useful in that it encompasses all Combined Statistical Areas (CSAs)* as well as all Core-Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) that are not part of CSAs. CBSAs consist of Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and Micropolitan Statistical Areas (μSAs). CSAs are composed of CBSAs, but not all CBSAs are part of a CSA. I prefer to use PSAs in order to group together closely linked MSAs like San Jose and San Francisco-Oakland or Baltimore and Washington.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistica...ted_States

* The older term for these is Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Areas (CMSAs), which you reference.
