SEC Lifting Ban on Alcohol Sales
https://twitter.com/RossDellenger/status...08448?s=20

It's official. The ban on beer and wine has come to an end.

A&M and LSU I assume will allow sales this year as they've been the biggest proponents. I've heard Ole Miss and Auburn may be sympathetic too. South Carolina I'm quite confident will not have it for this football season.

"I see no downside to selling beer at LSU home games" said no one ever.
03-drunk

(but seriously, this is probably NOT what will bring about the end of the world)

If anything it’ll curb some of the binge drinking

I'm pretty sure a college (I think it was West Virginia U) did a peer-reviewed study showing that was the case. I'd be willing to bet however there's a lot of price elasticity involved - for example, Miami re-allowed beer sales a few years ago after being banned over decade ago but hasn't had much of a change because the cheapest items are domestic bottles for $8. The people that will drink to a dangerous extent won't be at the football game.

Green's on Assembly is probably lobbying hard for there not to be beer sales allowed. That would cut hard into their gameday mini-bottle sales.

Yep, just one more reason I'll be enjoying my HD big screen after over 40 years of buying season tickets. The piped in music destroyed talking to your friends that you had sat with for decades. The signage was 90% corporate. The drunks outside tailgating were obnoxious enough (ours and theirs). And when they quit letting me bring in my own stadium cushion so they could extort another $5 out of me that was pretty much it.

BTW: Beer sales at L.S.U. will not curb binge drinking, it will extend it by 3 and half hours provided there's no overtime.

And CJ, all of the AD's want to see more young families at the game so that traditions are set for the young. I bet this goes over like a lead balloon with the young families. Everyone always enjoys explaining bad language to their kids and trying to distract them when a drunk does something disgusting.

I mean let’s be honest....so you think there is kid older than 4 in south Louisiana (not North Louisiana we’re all the Baptist live) that has never seen a drunk fool at a football game....

In all honesty by the time a kids 14 or so at McNeese, UL, LSU, Southeastern, and hell probably Tulane they become one of those drunk fools.

You wouldn't have to get off of it if you had learned how to behave like an adult when you were on it! And I don't tell, and I don't ask, I just remove.

With a few exceptions, people are not going to get drunk on $8+ beers in the stadium. They are going to get drunk on the cases and kegs they brought with them.

Ohh, no doubt. I’d be willing to bet they do over half of their annual mini bottle sales on the seven home Saturdays a year

I don’t think this will have the effect on young families that you think it will. If anything, this will increase ticket sales, actual attendance, and fans staying longer.

If this wasn’t a money maker or turned fans off in large numbers do you think every pro sports franchise would still be allowing it?

Yes I do. It is a money maker. And at Jordan-Hare we don't have a problem with attendance, yet. I have a life time of dealing with drunks at games. Some are harmless, and some are not and use extreme profanity in front of your kids or try to start fights and you have to contain them until the deputies get up there. And that's inside the stadia whether at home or away. It disrupts the viewing of the game, and sometimes puts regular fans in the position of having to step in which is something you shouldn't have to think about when you go to a game, especially with your family.

I might add that the obnoxiousness is usually in full swing before the game even gets started and it doesn't have to be a majority of fans to create issues. People's right to drink ends at the point when they impinge the enjoyment of others at the event, and certainly ends at the point where they endanger themselves or others.

Eight dollar beer doesn't constrain anything if they are already have crocked when they enter. And for 40 years it hasn't stopped those who wanted to tape flasks to their legs or have their wife slip in miniatures. That Gamecock is just reality.

At least I walk to the games when I go so I don't have to get on the highway with them.

There are plenty of drunks now though, I don’t think this will exacerbate that. In fact most schools (WVU, Texas, Ohio St) have seen decreases in fan ejections and behavior problems

We have some friends who have occasionally given us their 50 yard line seats when they couldn't use them. My son doesn't like to sit there because of the language from a normally drunk couple of guys who sit right there.

The loudness of the music makes it really tough to talk. Just a dumb idea. If they want to get people more involved, reduce the TV timeouts. SEC Network games are the absolute worst.
