Holy Cross' president famously told the Big East "they were not in the entertainment business." Boston College gladly accepted. Seven years later, Holy Cross dropped out of Div. I-A.

Holy Cross almost immediately regretted their decision and tried to gain admittance a couple years later. Then they passed on becoming a founding member of the Atlantic 10 (when the Eastern 8 regrouped) and St. Joe’s got their spot.
