4 Takeaways From Sinclair's Acquisition Of Fox Regional Sports Networks From Disney
Sinclair also announced the RSNs will be acquired via a newly formed indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinclair, Diamond Sports Group. Byron Allen has agreed to become an equity and content partner in Diamond.

Sinclair is the largest station group in the U.S., owning 193 local stations in 89 TV markets across 34 states. With the acquisition of the Fox RSNs, Sinclair is becoming a major player in local sports.

In February 2019, Sinclair announced a partnership with the Chicago Cubs to own and operate Marquis Sports Network, which will televise Cubs games locally beginning in 2020. In 2016, Sinclair acquired The Tennis Channel, with national distribution (61 million homes), for $350 million. Sinclair is also a part owner of Stadium, a multi-platform streaming sports network.

When a team is competitive, an RSN can deliver broadcast TV-like prime-time ratings of a highly desirable audience for advertisers in a local market—making it a valuable asset for any owner.
