Notre Dame- Recruiting
For those of you who are the experts on football recruiting, how much does having the Notre Dame game on the schedule in 2024 help with recruiting in the present? I have to believe playing at ND would be a nice selling feature to sell recruits on NIU?

RE: Notre Dame- Recruiting
Notre Dame game and transfer Bowers add buzz to NIU football
Quote:The other exciting news was the recent announcement that NIU, for the first time in football, has scheduled a game against Notre Dame. That game won’t be played until 2024 but it’s already having an impact on recruiting.
“The recruits are really excited about it,” said Hammock. “We recruit a lot of kids in the Midwest. Everybody knows who Notre Dame is. We’re certainly excited to have that opportunity. I said, ‘That will be your senior year right when it’s time to play those guys,’ so the class of 2020 is certainly excited about it.”

RE: Notre Dame- Recruiting
If you are in the 2020 class and have an opportunity to play right away do you decline in order to be around for Notre Dame?
You never decline playing but it is something to think about especially if it is to fair catch punts.

Players won't be burning redshirts just to fair catch punts. Call it a hunch.

Notre Dame does not operate that way. They rarely ever back out of a game they have previously scheduled.

How about the chances of someone posting something positive when something good happens for NIU?

Hopefully it helps. I don't get the fascination with TSISB though.

I can't imagine it having a huge effect. For most of us old aholes, Notre Dame is this legendary powerhouse that rises above all other football programs. For the younger generations, I don't think that's anywhere close to the case. I assume it's a cool thing, but no different than a game against Ohio State, or Oregon, or Florida State.

I would definitely say ND does not have the same shine to it, that it used to have.

They are still an elite program. Maybe not at the Alabama Clemson level but right below.

Huge step below, they showed that they could not compete with the big programs in that bowl game. Looked like FCS vs FBS

Yes, I do. That's the reason for the
ND has slipped a little, but so have other "traditional" powers compared to the big-buck-raising programs like Alabama and Clemson. Kentucky also had some success last year and is looking to build on that. Too many, I think, view the glass as half empty, but that's a rather odd failing for Northern fans ... not looking at it from Northern's point of view. Notre Dame and Kentucky are still huge scheduling gets -- and opportunities -- for NIU no matter how shiny or dull the image of either one.
And, if I might, tho it's about bowls, a return to the Quick Lane in Detroit against the Big 10 is still another chance for a "boneyard" win.
To quote the great video about THammock: "Any time, any place, Put the ball down. Let's play"

Notre Dame isn't just a top college venue, it's a top sports' destination in America. Maybe the world. Like Yankee Stadium, Wrigley or Madison square garden, getting to play at Notre Dame is freaking HUGE.

Why do people think its such a big deal? If you aren't Catholic and aren't duped by the hype and the marketing, its basically just another P5 school.

It’s just history and lore. I can’t explain how it happens. Some teams just resonate and become almost symbolic. The gold helmets. The Yankee logo. The celtic’s logo. The Packers G. How did Wrigley Field become so iconic? A silly goat curse and babe’s called shot? Idk. The four horsemen, win one for the gipper and Rudy....all that BS combined with their success, most heismans, most NFLers, 3rd most natty titles and 6th most wins. There’s probably some good ol’ idealistic Americana associated with them too. Heart of the Midwest. Catholic. That stuff.
What ever the reasons are, Notre Dame is holy grail to play at.
