2019/20 College Football Bowl Schedule
Surprised I missed this from a few days ago. Here are the conference tie-ins from the 39 Bowls:

Dec. 20 Frisco [Frisco, Texas] 7:30 p.m. (ESPN2) American vs. Sun Belt

Dec. 21 Cure [Orlando, Fla.] 2:30 p.m. (CBSSN) American vs. Sun Belt

Dec. 21 Boca Raton [Boca Raton, Fla.] 3:30 p.m. (ABC) MAC vs. American

Dec. 21 New Orleans [New Orleans, La.] 9 p.m. (ESPN) C-USA vs. American

Dec. 23 Gasparilla [Tampa, Fla.] 2:30 p.m. (ESPN) C-USA vs. ACC/American

Dec. 24 Hawaii [Honolulu, Hawaii] 8 p.m. (ESPN) BYU vs. American

Dec. 27 Military [Annapolis, Md.] Noon (ESPN) American vs. ACC/Notre Dame

Jan. 2 Birmingham [Birmingham, Ala.] 3 p.m. (ESPN) SEC vs. American

The Bowl Selection Committee [NY6] game that Cincinnati will be playing in:

Dec. 28 Cotton [Arlington, Texas] Noon (ESPN) At-large vs. At-large

There are six games scheduled on December 21st and the AAC plays in three of them. Two of those start only one hour apart [Cure and Boca Raton].

The first 5 really suck. Hawaii bowl is hard because of family Christmas. Military is nice but not again. Birmingham's Legion Field is a dump.

It definitely shows how limited our opportunities are against the P5 but we better start winning the bowl games we do play in before we worry about stepping up. What was the AAC bowl record last year - just two wins overall? Like I said, Cincinnati will be playing in the Cotton Bowl so we're good to go...

RE: 2019/20 College Football Bowl Schedule
A few changes in the bowl schedule.. it was assumed before and I believe posted elsewhere but AAC is scheduled to pair off against the ACC in the unnamed Boston Bowl game at Fenway.

We've also added the Quick Lane Bowl against the Big Ten.

Not terrible when you consider we have 7 bowl tie-ins and possibly 5 are against "power 6 teams". Ideally for next year we should work to hang on to the good bowls we have and gain a bowl game tie-in against the Big12 and Pac12.

Fenway (ACC)
Military (ACC)
Birmingham (SEC)
Quick Lane (B10)
Gasparilla (SEC possible)

RE: 2019/20 College Football Bowl Schedule
It is what it is. Just as we don't want to schedule bowl games with the SBC or the MAC, the P5 schools don't want to schedule a bowl game with schools in the AAC. There's nothing really we can do about it short of getting invited to a P5.

The Quick Lanes Bowl will likely draw the Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana Illinois and Northwestern type of schools from the B1G when they are bowl eligible. I suspect our locals will make the short jaunt to see the Bearcats play those teams. You have to remember the casual fan still hold those B10 schools in high regard.

I don't get the Bowl schedule complaints. We're in the AAC. It is what it is. The bowl lineup is better than conference below us and worse than the conferences above us. We have multiple options to play major conference teams. That's all this league can really ask for.

No surprise, but it appears McMurphy is spreading fallacies again. The Quick Lane Bowl re-upped with the B10 and the MAC today.

Disappointing news for the American. Then again, I guess this is a bone the B10 throws to the MAC for providing a steady diet of sacrificial lambs for B10 home openers each year.

The MAC seems to be in a particularly precarious position in the G5 world. The conference TV deal doesn't provide much revenue, media markets are mostly small to mid-sized (and shrinking), and attendance and ticket revenue must be near the bottom of the G5. B10 scheduling of MAC opponents actually provides a substantial subsidy each year to those schools.

There's a cautionary tale here for UC too. If the MAC drops back to FCS, the Bearcats may lose the last local rivalry game and some pre-conference scheduling opportunities with other Ohio MAC schools. Until UC reaches the P5, the Bearcats need those games to fill out the schedule.

I'm fine with UC playing the Toledo's, Ohio's, and Marshalls (cusa, not MAC, I know)...ie regional G4 programs that will bring some fans and have some local interest. Better than a McNeese State or even Troy. These games should all be at Nippert, granted, but we need a local MAC/CUSA team on the home slate. In fact, I'm all for dropping the Miami series and just scheduling them once ever few years at Nippert. If they don't like it, ok. Just plug in Kent, Ohio, Toledo or BGSU in their place. No skin off our nose.

If a series with Miami has to continue, then Nippert every two years and PBS during Octoberfest every third year. No Oxford games. Its just a waste of time going there at this point.

Under the current deal, we're only going to Oxford 4 times in the next year span. That being said, I've been saying for years I would rather plug Ohio and Toledo in their spot. We had a great turnout last year against Ohio (including a good number of Ohio fans).

I respect the Cincinnati/Miami rivalry, and don't turn my back on tradition lightly, but that program just seems moribund. I'm not just talking about their record, but institutional and fan support. The folks up at MU just don't seem to care about football anymore, or for that matter, basketball either.

Ohio and Marshall are much better programs right now.

P.S. If we are going to keep playing a FCS game, Youngstown State is the team to schedule. In-state, respectable, fertile recruiting grounds, and may even bring some fans.

And they may bring their president along in his traditional gray sweater vest.

43 Bowl games on tap for next year. I did not know fans had that much of an appetite for them.

Compare that to the thousands of basketball games that will be televised. Give me some bowl games.

Yep. Although attendance often sucks, even the really minor bowls draw eyeballs. There are a ton of them for a reason.

I consider myself a fan overall and it's winter time so what else are you gonna do? That said, if the NCAA keeps adding more bowl games then you might have a situation where a 4-8 team would need to be eligible to fill the slots. That would be an extreme case but certainly more 5-7 teams would be bowl eligible. At some point, the product gets too watered down.

If a bowl cannot average some attendance minimum such as 25,000 in the 3 consecutive years after year 2 it should be terminated.

You know what would generate more legit bowl games and thus higher ratings and revenue?

An expanded playoff.
