RE: Make Your Case for Which Games Get the Primo 3 P.M. NFL Network Kickoffs
If someone is paying the conference for these games I would think they would pick the games based on what they think would be highest ratings.

Having 10 games of Two CUSA teams will not win out over a P5 team. That's why I dont believe there's a chance the NFL Network will wait till week 5 to jump into carrying games.

The Western vs UofL game time of 3pm was announced one week before CUSA announced this contract. At that point the NFL Network had to have told CUSA some of the games they wanted.

The last time Western played a Sept home game kicking off at 3:30 (Vandy) you had people passing out in the stands from the heat. You had a SRO crowd leaving before halftime because old people and kids could not take the heat. This was a game that went into OT and lost on a 2 point play.

I can not see Western repeating this and especially not with tickets costing $56 to $76 (if its 85+ degrees it will affect tickets sold) unless TV wanted the game

I mean, I don't disagree that Louisville vs WKU* would be a good game. My point is that the TV station is not going to want to have week-long breaks in between broadcasting CUSA games.

Neutral field

If that's the case starting week 1 and going through 10 would benefit the Network a lot more.

Week 5 is conference play and every network is going to have a better game than CUSA vs CUSA.

When CBSSN has a chance to cover a CUSA game they chose a OOC game till they had no other choice.

Houston at Rice
Indiana at Florida International
Virginia Tech at Old Dominion
NC State at Marshall
Middle Tennessee at Marshall
Louisiana Tech at Florida Atlantic
Western Kentucky at Middle Tennessee
Florida Atlantic at North Texas
Western Kentucky at Louisiana Tech
Conference USA Championship

If they wanted to carry all CUSA games they would have but I bet those first 4 games had a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 higher ratings than the last 5. Including the championship game.

Their main concern is ratings...which are usually low for CUSA football. I believe that's why you had a Western @ Tech game for CBSSN last game. Two years before it's ratings doubled the Western vs S. Miss championship game.

These networks are going to pick a P5 team over CUSA vs CUSA if they have that chance. My pick of Western vs UofL has more to do with UofL being a P5 and a start time of 3pm than it being a good game to show. Dont believe Western and UofL got together and said 3pm in Sept is a great time to start a FB game. Not unless TV was involved

Great opponents, but our teams are not hosting those games, so they are not options for the NFL Network. We have to host the games for them to fall under our media deal. This fact is one of the main reasons our media package is worth crap.
Exactly right. Louisiana Tech at Texas will be on the Longhorn Network if it isn't picked up on another ESPN network.

Now that I think about it, it seems unlikely Rice-Texas (week 3) would be on that network. The game is at NRG Stadium and I'm pretty sure the TV rights to the game are owned by NRG. They're certainly not going to allow the game to be moved to a network if they don't get some of the money, and absolutely won't do it if it hurts ticket sales since they're guaranteeing payouts to both teams I believe?

If this is the case, and Rice doesn't hold the broadcast rights, than the Lousiville @ WKU will probably be the NFL game in Week 3.

Doesn't CBSSN have first pick at games for the next few years?

Yes, and in my first post I named the games they have claimed. C-USA and the NFL Network did not announce their deal until a few weeks after CBSSports picked their match-ups on April 16th. CBSSports never gives C-USA Saturday games. The games they chose will all be aired on Fridays. Of course, I believe they can and will select more of our games during the season.

Just make sure Baylor@Rice is chosen and the NFL Network agrees to air the entire MOB show. Last Baylor visit was excellent.

Week 14 - FIU @ Marshall (depending) this could be for the East Division and who plays in the CUSA championship game.

I agree on Week 14. I also think Marshall @ MT in Week 6, Marshall @ FAU in Week 8, and LA Tech @ Marshall in Week 12 could be selected.

I'll say it's N. Tx v. Houston IF Houston is 3-1 or better and N. Tx is 2-2 or better. Marshall should be at least 2 -1 but Cincy might be 1 - 2. Odds are better for N. Tx. v. Houston, I didn't realize Cincy has UCLA and OSU in the first two weeks.

Since no one else has brought it up yet, UTSA hosts Army in week 3, in what should be a very-well attended game because of San Antonio's large active-duty military and retired military presence.

We're also at Texas A&M on November 2nd. Not sure how we'll fare this time, but we gave 'em a contest last time we were there. Our offense should be better this season than last year with our new OC. We also finally seem to have Frank Harris healthy at QB (knock on wood). He has been a possible projected starter each of the last 2 years, but sustained season-ending knee injuries before the seasons even got under way.

thats probably a very strong candidate for an NFL network game...if cbs doesn't take it first.

Do you have a link? I am not seeing where TV has been announced for that game.

Charlotte @ App week 2 could be good. Charlotte @ ODU could be for a few marbles. I think Charlotte will be very close to bowl eligibility at that point, and if Wilder doesn't bowl, methinks he gone.

Those are the only games on our schedule that I see having any sort of TV draw.

I'm a little confused...does this new NFL deal specify it's for CUSA conference matchups or is just games involving a CUSA team ?

If it's an OOC game played at home the CUSA will hold the rights to broadcast and it will be available to choose from. Obviously all the conference games will be available. One reason why getting P5 schools to play at your home is important. CBS has preferred to put us on Fridays though, a couple of years ago the wanted the NC State game (maybe UNC?) that was played at ODU to be moved to Friday but the the other school wouldn't allow it because they come play us for recruiting purposes and all the recruits will be playing Friday nights. I think the NFL Network will certainly pick some OOC games with P5 opponents if they're available because they have bigger fan bases and bigger names to draw eyeballs.

Apropos of nothing, Charlotte has scheduled all four of their CUSA home games at 3:30.

Isn’t that the NFL time slot?
