Correct, as does perennial success. Failing to reach a Super Regional should only be held against the program to a point.
Davidson has reached a Super Regional too, but only has 1 NCAA Tournament appearance all-time, meaning that was kind of a fluke until they prove otherwise.
Legit arguments either way IMO. If Duke continues to have success the next 3-5 years and we don't make a super, it will be cut and dry IMO.
It could change. But as of now, we consistently own Duke. The last time we played them was in the 2016 regional. We beat them 11-1. So, head to head, it's never been close.

RE: 2019 NCAA Baseball Regionals
If Greg Jones turns into an MLB star that would also wash away the Marcus Stroman argument. Rooting hard for the kid to make it big. We haven't had a star in the pros just yet. Carl Willis and Hatcher were both good pitchers in the bigs for a while, but never "stars".
By comparison, Northeastern had Carlos Pena, who over a 5-year period in the bigs hit 172 HR's and drove in 487 runners. That's what we need: A guy who plays at an All-Star level for several seasons in the majors.

That would be great for the program. Here is the Ray's top 50 for 2019, Both SS and OF has the top 50 littered. So he could have a tough road ahead.

Yep, the Rays have consistently had a very good farm system. And they aren't likely to trade prospects away, because they can't afford to take on large contracts from other teams even in contending years.
But the cream rises to the top. If he proves he can play multiple positions, he'll make himself invaluable as a SS/CF/2B type, similar to Reds 2B/CF Nick Senzel.

I've heard chirpings that they actually may make a splash this year and go after a big arm for a playoff run. So perhaps some of these guys will get moved.
