Great! Same here, except I won't be there Friday. Just Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully we'll have wrapped up the Regional by then and won't need Monday's 2nd championship game. 04-rock

Scouting the NCAA Regional Field

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – As the two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champion UNCW baseball team continues to prepare for its 10th NCAA regional appearance this weekend, UNCWSports.com takes a closer look at the other teams in the Chapel Hill Regional.

A Look at Liberty
Nickname: Flames
Conference: Atlantic Sun

How They Reached NCAA Tournament: Automatic Qualifier (Atlantic Sun Champions)
NCAA Tournament Appearances (Including 2019): 6 (Most Recent – 2014)

Notes of Interest:
• In their first season as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Flames claimed the league's tournament title with a 4-3 victory over Stetson on Sunday afternoon.
• Liberty, which posted a 5-1 record in the Atlantic Sun Tournament, had to win four straight games to earn the league title after dropping a 9-6 verdict in extra innings against Jacksonville last Thursday.
• The Flames, who won a league championship for the first time since 2013, were led by catcher Jonathan Embry last weekend. Embry was named as the ASUN Tournament Most Valuable Player after hitting .474 with two doubles and a home run.
• Embry also became the fifth Liberty baseball player to earn a conference Player of the Year award after receiving the ASUN Player of the Year accolade. The Louisville, Ky., product leads the Flames with a .311 batting average along with 10 home runs and 16 doubles.
• Liberty split a pair of games against North Carolina during the regular season, including a 2-0 victory on Mar. 19, while falling to Tennessee, 7-1, on Feb. 26 in Knoxville.

A Look at North Carolina

Conference: ACC

• Junior Michael Busch was named as the ACC Tournament MVP after slugging three home runs, including a solo shot in the seventh inning of Sunday's title game.
• Freshman Aaron Sabato, who joined Busch on the ACC All-Tournament Team, paces the Tar Heel offense with a .338 batting average and ranks second behind Busch with 14 home runs.
• Coach Mike Fox is in his 21st season at his alma mater and has guided the Tar Heels to a 932-397-1 record during his time at Chapel Hill.

Seahawk Storylines: NCAA Regional

10 Count – The Seahawks are preparing to make their 10th NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend after winning the Colonial Athletic Association crown for the sixth time last week. It is also the fourth time in the last five years UNCW has continued its season into the month of June.

Familiar Foe – UNCW and North Carolina squared off twice during the regular season with the Tar Heels emerging victorious in both contests. After edging the Seahawks by a 4-3 count at Boshamer Stadium on Feb. 26, the Tar Heels completed the regular season sweep with an 11-4 victory on Mar. 13 in Wilmington.

Fight to the Finish – The Seahawks have reached the regional final in six of their previous nine NCAA appearances, including each of the last three occasions (2015, 2016 and 2018).

History Lesson – UNCW and Tennessee have met twice previously in the NCAA Tournament with the Seahawks winning both contests. Both of those wins came in the 2004 NCAA Regional in Kinston, N.C., as the Seahawks eliminated the Volunteers from the tournament by scores of 8-5 and 4-3, respectively.

Like a Broken Record – After setting the program record with 541 strikeouts last year, UNCW pitchers have combined to eclipse that mark by notching 543 strikeouts through 61 games this season. Prior to last season, the Seahawks had never reached the 500-strikeout mark in a single year.

Back on Track – One could argue that the Seahawks are playing their best baseball right now and the facts are certainly there to back it up. UNCW has won six of its last seven games after going through a stretch of dropping 12 of 18 contests from Apr. 14-May 16.

Coming Full Circle – For UNCW Coach Mark Scalf, this weekend's NCAA Chapel Hill Regional will allow him to return to the place where his college coaching career began. The Cary, N.C., native opened his coaching career as an assistant at North Carolina before returning to his alma mater in 1984.

What Can Brown Do for You? – The Seahawks will look for another outstanding performance from redshirt junior outfielder Kep Brown in this weekend's NCAA Regional. The Charleston, S.C., native went 10-for-21 at the plate in last year's Greenville Regional with two home runs and seven runs batted in while earning a spot on the All-Regional Team.

Together Again – Liberty Head Coach Scott Jackson served as an assistant coach for the Seahawks from 2003-07 and helped UNCW reach the NCAA Tournament three times during his time in the Port City.

Together Again, The Sequel – UNCW Pitching Coach Matt Myers could face his alma mater this weekend if the Seahawks square off with Tennessee. Myers, who joined the Seahawks' staff in July, compiled a 13-4 record for the Volunteers from 1996-97 and also spent time as a graduate assistant in Knoxville during the 1999 season.

Jonesin' – Sophomore Greg Jones, the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year, has put together one of the top campaigns for any sophomore in UNCW history. The Cary, N.C., product needs one run to become the fifth player in school history to cross the plate 70 or more times in a single year while he has already set program records for walks, stolen bases and triples by a sophomore.

30 Something – UNCW relief pitcher Blake Morgan could become the 12th player in program history to pitch in 30 or more games in a single season if he makes one appearance at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional. The southpaw from Durham, N.C., is 4-2 this season with three saves and a 2.79 earned run average.

By the Numbers – The Seahawks are 15-18 all-time in the NCAA Tournament … UNCW holds a 3-9 record this year against teams in the NCAA field, including a pair of wins over Big South Conference champion Campbell … UNCW can tie the program record for most games played in a single season with three contests in this weekend's regional … Jones, junior Cole Weiss and sophomore Noah Bridges can also match the program single-season record for individual games played if they play in at least two games this weekend … UNCW holds a 10-14 all-time record in games played in June.

RE: 2019 NCAA Baseball Regionals
By the way I made an error when providing Coach Scalf's Regional performance. I neglected to factor in the 2004 Regional into the numbers:

* Scalf's overall record at Regionals: 15-18
* Regional Championship Appearances: 6 (2003, 2004, 2008, 2015, 2016, 2018)
* Elimination of host team: 1 (ECU, 2018)

So 6/9 times we've been one of the final 32 teams left. Pretty incredible. The only way to put the cherry on top this time around is be one of the Final 8 this year. Let's do it.

Figured as much. They're not taking us for granted or taking any chances by throwing their Friday guy. They know we're capable of knocking them off.

RE: 2019 NCAA Baseball Regionals
Interesting decision by Coach Scalf: Zarion Sharpe will be getting the ball today instead of Gesell!

Must be because they have 6 key hitters (Michael Busch, Ashton McGee, Dylan Harris, Jackson Hesterlee, Caleb Roberts, Clemente Inclan) that are lefties. 3 of those 6 players listed have started at least 95 % of UNC's games this season.

RE: 2019 NCAA Baseball Regionals
It appears to me that UNC had to bench at least one quality hitter because of our election to go with a lefty. RF Dallas Tessar has only started 9 games this season and is hitting .214.

Let's go Seahawks!!

I hate all these reviews. Hate it hate it hate it. And now they're gonna call him out I bet.

They changed the rules to limit mound visits so games would be shorter. But now we have to deal with reviews every inning or 2. So lame.
