Of course, we were talking QB's so I kept it to that. I know it takes a team, talking QB's

Okay, it still wasn't Maddie.

Santa beat Nebraska in Lincoln.

Maddie lost to Western Illinois at Huskie Stadium (although he may have tag-teamed with Graham on the 'L' that day).

More unpopular opinions: Hare was a more efficient (read: better) runner than Maddie.

Hare's extrapolated 3,200yd 23/7 season would rank Top 3 all-time at NIU with Harnish's 2011 season and Bork's 1963 season.

I stand by my assessment that, if Hare stayed healthy and continued his upward trend of improving, he would have finished Top 3 all-time NIU passing QB with Harnish and Bork sharing most of NIU's passing records among the three of them.

Can’t be great if you can’t stay on the field. I would definitely take Hare over Maddie, but they are in the same class. Which is below Harnish/Lynch, but above everyone else.

It should be noted in the pros and cons for Hare that he did suffer from
Ryan Graham disease. That’s being injured during easy games and playing all the tough ones. Hare faced some tough OOC opponents and its why he was 15-7 as full game starter. On the flip side, Hare benefitted from the greatest run of NIU WRs ever - T.Lewis-NFL, D.Brown-NFL,C.Beebe-NFL,K.Golladay-NFL

RE: 2019 Offense
Have to agree with NorthCoast on this one. I see Maddie as a kind of Dan Nicholson-to-Phil Horvath kinda guy. In 9 games in '05, Horvath threw for 2,001 yards with 18 td and 8 int. Nicholson looked pretty good, adding 6 td and 2 int., with 831 yards in 8 games. (To be fair, that year Garrett Wolfe had 1,802 total yards and 17 tds, and Sam Hurd had 1,074 and 13 tds.). That said, I wouldn't put Maddie up there with Hare.

What I like looking ahead is that Eidsness (who will be calling plays, per THammock) is not so much a one-dimensional guy like the Carey-Uremovich duo. With the way RB/WR/TE crews are shaping up, Huskies will have plenty of options to move the ball.

On paper at least, even if Bowers can't walk on water like some posters seem to think, I still think the Bowers-Childers/Childers-Bowers duo might help move the needle a good measure. With their respective (demonstrated) skills, even an infrequent switch might help keep some defenses nervous. And allow Eidsness to have sideline with the QB once in a while without the game going to hell in a handbasket.

Just IMO.

Go Huskies!

Oh dear Lord nooooo. We have had musical chairs at NIU for long enough. You just need to get some consistency going.

As I have said in a number of posts, THammock will pick the guy for QB based on what works and who's best for the job. My only point was that whoever is starter, the other guy is not a bad #2. That's what I meant by "Bowers-Childers, Childers-Bowers" (quoting myself; isn't that sad?) I have no idea -- and neither do you -- who the starter will be. A lot of posters including me expect it to be Bowers, but we're not THammock. And after long discussion about how Hare could have been even better, but got sidelined by injuries, the point makes sense.

ah ok I see. I thought you meant NIU should go back to the days of not being able to make a QB decision. That was such a painful thing to have a coach that literally could not make a coaching decision. I think Bowers would really have to be bad to not get the starting job. To make that transfer from PAC12 to MAC is pretty phenomenal if you are riding the bench in the MAC.

Keep in mind, Bowers put up some good numbers when he was healthy against PAC 12 defenses as a RS Sophomore. With two years of eligibility left, his upside is huge. He also fits Coach Eidsness' offensive scheme. These are the likely reasons the coaches want him at NIU.

Per game yd avg for each QBs best season:

J.Lynch - (354yds) 224 pass, 130 rush, 3.14 td/.4 int, team ppg 39
Harnish - (329yds) 230 pass, 99 rush, 2.8 td/ .42 int, team ppg 38
Maddie - (320yds) 220 pass, 100 rush, 2.7 td/ 1.1 int, team ppg 35
D.Hare - (260yds) 230 pass, 30 rush, 2.0 td/ 0.15 int, team ppg 36
Horvath - (259yds) 235 pass, 24 rush, 2.2 td/ .57 int, team ppg 31
Childrs - (238yds) 186 pass, 52 rush, 2.3 td/ 0.15 int, team ppg 29

That’s not the exact order I’d rank them, but it is how I’d separate them in pairs. Top 2, middle 2, bottom 2. Stats wise it should be top 3, bottom 3, but Maddie’s sample is too small to list his stats with Harnish even
though they are very similar. Surprised that Horvath and Hares are almost identical.
