2019 Offense
There is a thread about Bowers and another thread about the WRs being better or worse. I thought a thread about our 2019 Offense might be good.

I saw in another thread that Hammock is very high on Erin Collins. This didn't surprise me a bit. I heard him described as having "ridiculous/incredible" speed, which seems accurate based on his highlights. https://www.hudl.com/profile/4359476/Erin-Collins

He had 16 offers including 8 P5 offers out of high school. https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2...lins-45732

He was the #22 ranked 2017 all purpose back; I am not sure why he was listed as an APB and not a running back. https://247sports.com/Season/2017-Footba...sition=APB

Since he committed the day after Bowers he seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle to some degree. We will see how this plays out; all things considered and with Hammock being very high on Collins, I would not be surprised to see him listed as the # 2 RB in the depth chart behind Harbs, giving us an all former P5 backfield with Bowers at QB. I heard this radio broadcast about whether NIU's offense got better with Bowers and Collins and and this article, although it is too early to hear much about that yet.

https://radiopublic.com/mac-prospectus-a...p/s1!a2d2e

https://macprospectus.com/2019/04/01/niu...-nc-state/

I don't recall hearing anything about Collins recruitment and decision; other than him calling it an "easy decision" (without much elaboration), I don't recall hearing much about Bowers either. I am not sure how Hammock and company did it, but I sure am happy they landed both and excited about our O this year! While we may have some adjustment and learning curve issues, I am thinking by the time MAC play starts our O could be very good or at least a lot more productive than last year!

RE: 2019 Offense
The offense certainly could be improved. But the only group intact and a sure bet is RB. Theyre a 100% lock to be as good or better than last year. Same group but with Nettles a year better. Now add Collins, who could potentially be the best, and this group is stacked. TE is almost a lock to be better with a healthy Brinkman and more depth. WR is a wild card, I like the group to be better, but that’s because I really like Robinson to break out. I can’t help but to mark the O-line as should be worse.

So much will just come down to Bowers. A really good QB can make even average WRs and O-lines work. Let’s hope he is just that.

RE: 2019 Offense
We have enough talent to be a good offense this year IF AND ONLY IF the Oline plays well. I have no idea if that will be the case but from what I have read we will be playing some new guys and we have limited depth for this critically important unit.

I have faith in Coach Hammock. As a former running back, he knows first-hand that the O-line is the most important unit of the offense. Necessary to protect the QB and to open the running lanes. Hammock will do what’s necessary to have a good O-line.

I think WR could see an improvement considering last year Tears sat out 3 games to start the season.

Agreed; I have a lot of faith in Coach Hammock and the staff he put together!

The only way our offense could be worse this year is if Bowers decides to throw left handed.

They will be better since Mike O will not be calling plays.

I have no idea who Mike O is. I assume you mean Mike Uremovich.

I have a feeling Harbs willput up the kind of numbers he was more than capable of last year. I also HOPE that Tears plays up to his immense potential that he showed in the MAC championship game...

Im very curious to see how the carries will be distributed amongst the backs. It’s felt like Nettles’ role is ever increasing. If Collins is anything like we’ve heard, who’s carries is he taking? 3 man rotation? Or Harbs the man and nettles the third down back?

I’d like Harbs as the man with Collins as his back up. Then Nettles the third down back with Jones as his back up.

Until Collins puts on pads, not sure what we have. He looks great on paper

RE: 2019 Offense
Similarly, until Nettles can prove he can stay healthy and get more than a handful of carries for the season, he's still a bit of an unknown.

Somehow, I don't think "not having enough carries to go around" will be an issue. Things have a way of working out.

RE: 2019 Offense
I see a lot of depth being developed, with several potential go-to guys. THammock doesn't want to run out of gas mid-game, whether it's someone having a bad day, injury, their defense, whatever. Same at QB. Say what you want, but Bowers-Childers or Childers-Bowers is a better 1-2 than Northern has had in a long while. Both have something to prove, and both have proven something.
