As an avid astronomer, I have always known what nonsense the flat earth garbage is, but 95% of the population knows almost nothing of astronomy beyond a few planet names or stars.

I been looking for a short, simple vid explaining this in layman terms, finally ran across one:

Obviously this can only work on a globe. If the earth is flat, you are not in the southern hemisphere but instead on the outer edge of a plane. So both locations would be looking in dramatically different directions when looking south.

Star trails at BOTH the northern and southern pole stars are totally impossible on a flat earth.

How anyone can subscribe to the belief that the earth is flat is beyond me. They should be locked up in the same cells as those wacked out sovereign citizens. They are both equally as idiotic.

I'm in a Facebook group called flat earthers United that has 48k members. I'm sure a lot of them are like me, just there to watch the zoo animals, but they have a lot of active members that post a lot of "proof"

I've come to the conclusion based on the proofs they post that the simplest explanation is they are all very unintelligent. They have inability to grasp concepts beyond what they can see and experience. Oddly though they almost always hyper-Christian and use Bible verses as evidence.

Most of them fall more into the category of pseudo-christian than Christian.

They worship flat earth conspiracies far more than Jesus. They know 10 times more flat earth conspiracies than Bible.

The Bible supports a globe anyway. Both OT and NT. When flat earthers use the bible, they use idioms in the OT text that are clearly not speaking of actual physical traits of the earth. Then they ignore and twist books like Job that are actually speaking in a scientific context.

Like if I said "raining cats and dogs" and they say it really rained cats and dogs. Then they twist verses that actually speak in a scientific context of rain, clouds and water vapor.

Just listened to a dlive stream yesterday that involves flat earthers...

I've never seen a group of people deflect so much when challenged on their beliefs they can't back up.

These people are kooks, no ifs and or buts..

I run into them on a lot of sites I frequent, particularly on youtube.

Most of them are "Christian" in the way that black Hebrews are "Christians".

In other words, they have created a new religion and co-opt a few highly selected verses from the Bible.
