I'll see if there is any interest in a thread like this.
Nominate your local favorite hot dog, Brat, etc...share a link, video what makes it great. As tailgate season approaches it might be good to branch out and try something new.
I'll start off with a bratwurst nominee
Carle's Bratwurst of Bucyrus, OH an USAF buddy introduced them to me. Simple awesome.
My favorite is the Hot Link, but the Calabrese is also really good. Grab two dogs from here on your walk up to the stadium and you'll finish at least one before you get to the gate.
The most famous place to get them are at Heid's in Syracuse Suburb of Liverpool. I only dress it with a spicy brown mustard. Occasionally, maybe some sauerkraut.

I second that...great link sausage. I buy them at the Fort Drum Commissary north of Syracuse and we put it in our tailgate jambalaya and gumbo. I can also find it down in Tampa.

OK, my personal favorite is a local product - Thumann's dog done at home on the gas grill.
For all other styles, I like to use Best Beef Franks from the Motherland of Newark, NJ. It is very similar to a Sabrett/Nathans dog.
NJ is a hotdog Mecca, with many famous places to go. Try one of these.
1. Rutt's Hut ripper (Clifton, NJ), which is deep fat fried.
2. Dicky Dee's Italian hotdog (Newark, NJ), deep fat fried with potatoes and peppers&onions then served on baked pizza dough bread.
3. Libby's Texas wiener (Paterson, NJ), grilled on cooktop and served with a Greek style chilli and hot onions.
4. JJ's hotdog truck (Newark, NJ), dirty water dogs done about 100 different ways.
5. Destination Dogs (New Brunswick, NJ), an actual nice bar and restaurant specializes in gourmet hotdogs and sausages.

As a Chicagoan, I'll put in the obligatory claim for Portillo's. Great hot dogs, Polish sausage, Italian beef sandwiches, burgers, chocolate cake, and milkshakes (including merging the latter two into a chocolate cake shake). You can argue that particular places in Chicago might have a better hot dog or Italian beef (as I'm partial to Al's Italian Beef), but Portillo's does have consistency across its entire huge menu of Chicago foodstuffs that deliver from top to bottom. If you're lucky enough to have a critical mass of transplanted Chicagoans living near you (such as Phoenix/Scottsdale and Tampa), you might get a Portillo's of your own.
It's probably Chicago's version of In-N-Out in terms of its business structure, where it's a local chain but tightly controlled with all of the locations being owner/operated with a limited supply chain for quality purposes.

Portillo's to my house in Arizona: 5 minutes
Cubs Spring Training Park is 1.5 miles from that Portillo's

I have to tell you - we have Portillo's here, and the Italian beef (especially the Big Beef) and the combo with sausage is outstanding. Can't knock the shakes, either. Or the ability to get a draft beer. But the hot dogs themselves are puny compared to the ones we can get at Mel's.
