Who'd be good as Redd Foxx?
No one I can think of.
Maybe Kevin Hart, but he's not old enough to be Fred.
Keven Hart would be a better George Jefferson.

This was set up to fail. Those are hard characters to play AND they were going to do them live?

I think Archie Bunker is a very easy role for an actor. His one-liners are easy to pull off - the actor just has to pretend that he actually believes a racist stereotype. Beyond that, just act like an argumentative old crank who occasionally is forced to admit he's wrong.
The toughest role is Edith Bunker, his wife. She's clueless on a lot of things, but still charming and a sympathetic character. That's a very delicate balancing act for an actress. Most 50-something women aren't naturally ditsy, and you can't overdo the cluelessness or else the audience will lose all sympathy for her.

I think most people disagree with you on the Archie point. In the abstract its not a complicated part, but following the legendary portrayal from the original show is a really hard act to follow.
Most critics and people think Marisa Tomei knocked it out of the park as Edith.

Edith is the toughest, but Archie is tough too. Sally and Meathead are stereotypes. They aren't too hard.

These were two of my favorite shows ever. Right there with Sanford and Son, Good Times, and Welcome Back Kotter. I had to pass on watching last night. I prefer to remember the shows as they were.

Just watched. Not bad but not near as good as the originals. There’s only 1 Archie Bunker

I think Archie is difficult as a role because his views on race are wrong yet he is still likeable

I wonder if Norman Lear realized he was making Archie likable.
Progressives would run it off the air today. Even NYPD Blue in the 90s wouldn't be accepted today. Sipowicz was a bit of racist-not Archie level, but still definitely biased.

RE: Live reboots of All In The Family and The Jeffersons
I watched both of them.. I thought they did good.. Jamie Foxx as George was entertaining.. I liked Marla Gibbs playing Florence too..
My question.. Why is it ok to say honkey on TV but not the 'N' word? Shouldn't both been beeped out?
