Curious to see how this shakes out.

I don't think we're having 4 teams from a conference protected. He just wants our 1st 4 picks to be in contiguous states.

Now let's set a time. I'm thinking a weeknight. I'm thinking 8:30 pm eastern, Thursday the 30th. Let me know if that works for you or if we can push the date back. If someone can't make it one of the alternates can always jump in.

Personally, I think 12 rounds are enough to put together a good P level conference but each GM can have the option if they'd like to pick up 2 free agents at the end.

Once we have a date and the 6 GMs set I'll draw lots to determine the order.

Thursday at 8:30pm is good for me.

RE: ***NEW*** Simple P-league Mock Realignment Draft
If you could all put in an RSVP post on the thread to let me know you're good with Thursday at 8:30 eastern I'd appreciate it.

Alternates, please RSVP too. Chances are someone won't be able to make it and we can plug you guys in to fill any vacancies.

As a reminder, there are no protected picks but your first 4 picks must be in contiguous states (if someone really feels they need to add Hawaii in the first 4 picks I'll consider them to be bordering the 3 West Coast states)

Are Arizona and Colorado contiguous states ? What about Utah and New Mexico ? They are connected at 1 spot.

Yes. How about this for the Official Border List?
https://thefactfile.org/u-s-states-and-t...er-states/

Hawaii exception with HI bordering WA, Or, and CA of course.

Also, first 4 seems a little light for the contiguous requirement. How about first 4 contiguous and only 3 total “skips” allowed?

For instance, say your first 4 are SCar, UNC, UGA, and FL. Taking a Texas school would use all 3 skips (Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana).

The next pick would either have to be contiguous. Or if you pick a previously skipped state (say Mississippi in the example) you get one “skip” back to use later. This will keep us from having a bunch of transcontinental conferences. You can’t have more than 3 skipped states at any point in time though (can’t choose USC in that scenario then backfill to cut the skips down to 3 later).

Winner is best average sagarin ranking at end of season? Could also declare a basketball and Director’s cup winner.

That's a fine list of state's border states.

I think the skips idea is too complicated. Forcing people to have their first 4 to be contiguous is going to be hard enough. Besides if you start out picking 4 west coast schools You can't get into the B10 ACC or SEC states. That's too limiting and would prevent anyone from taking the Pac 12 schools early.

That's a lot of work for somebody. If you'd like to do it, I'm sure we would all love to see the results.

i think I coild knock each of those out in an hour. I would also declare an academic winner (ARWU or times higher ed rankings).

what would take a long time but would be the most interesting would be the title for most historic conference. The winner would be determined by adding the cumulative head to head meetings of all members of the conference. that's a full weekend. It woils even be interesting to do with current real conferences although the order is sort of obvious.

RE: ***NEW*** Simple P-league Mock Realignment Draft
Thanks for bearing with me gentlemen. I found myself unexpectedly spending my evening helping a family from church whose home was damaged in the storms that blew through the Midwest last night move.

I wanted to clarify some things that came up in a PM. Your first 4 picks do not need to come from the same conference, just contiguous states and it need not be 4 states--you could pick 4 Texas schools for instance. I'm also not picky on the order so long as by the 4th pick they all touch--you could pick USC, then Washington so long as with your 3rd or 4th pick you add an Oregon school to connect them. Be careful though and be smart--don't find yourself grabbing UAB in the 4th round because you have to connect FSU to Ole Miss and LSU because Alabama, Auburn, Tenn, and Vandy are all gone. My justification is that a conference should have a base footprint.

My plan is a 12 round draft. You are then free to make trades, subject to the commissioner (my) approval. Should anyone dip below 12 schools as a result of trades they will have first pick in a supplemental draft, essentially a waiver wire for those familiar with fantasy sports. After everyone is back to 12 if you feel you want more schools we will use the same supplemental process. Be careful not to delude your product if you chose to go beyond 12. Going beyond 12 is purely optional. I'm setting 16 as a maximum limit.

A note regarding Army and Navy--if you select them there is the understanding that they are fb only affiliates and their other sports stay in the Patriot.

Don't feel compelled to act as an agent or representative of any current existing conference.

Criteria for judging--what I'm looking for is a quality athletic conference, particularly in football. Academics and basketball helps. So does sound geography, institutional fit, preservation of established rivalries, and creativity. Build a conference that would be marketable to the networks.

As a reminder the draft is Thursday at 8:30 pm EASTERN. Central folks that's 7:30 for you, 6:30 mountain, 5:30 pacific. I have RSVPs from everyone but ghostofclt!

Draft Order (as determined by lots)

I'd like to shy away from outright trading picks and have everything get bogged down with negotiations. It will really slow the draft down. You're more than welcome to go through PM and make deals to sign and then trade after the 12th round is complete and the trade is approved. Everyone loves the excitement of unexpected draft day trades but I don't want each pick taking 12 minutes.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought the rule was no trades (my proposal) but then trades were mentioned in the rules. So is the rule that trades are allowed AFTER round 12?

Are we making all picks in this thread? If so, I'd recommend you keep track of the draft and the conferences as they're put together in the original post.
