I highly doubt it due to his age.

I highly doubt it because of his height. Someone his height needs to have pretty strong ball-handling skills these days. I mean, his only real chance would be at small forward, right? (And yes, I know all about the "positionless" NBA.) Virtually all "small forwards" can shoot pretty well outside. I wouldn't say "no chance"; but doubtful.

Yeah, at 6-7 225, you've got to be able to play out on the floor and shoot. An Andre Iquodala type game would be nice. If you play in the paint and rebound, you've got to be really big and powerful. And in the NBA even a lot of the big powerful guys can shoot.

Jeromy will find a home overseas. But even the top level leagues in Spain, Italy or France would probably be too tough.

He (and we) should have fun in the SoCon, though.

Chattanooga is currently playing in the Bahamas and going 3-0, giving us an early look at that team, albeit against not much defense (look at the high numbers for guys that we know: Jean-Baptiste and Vila. They didn't score like that in the SoCon). Quick summary: middle of the pack unless they get transfers Trey Doomes and Malachi Smith eligible. Pretty strong if they can play. Vandy/Notre Dame Graduate transfer Matt Ryan is as good as expected and eligible immediately:
https://gomocs.com/news/2019/8/6/mens-ba...x?path=mbb

Guards:
6-1 191 Rs-Jr David Jean-Baptiste 23.0 minutes, 12.7 ppg on 7-13 from 3 (43.8%); 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 steals
Currently not eligible: 6-3 200 So Wright St TR Malachi Smith 20.2 minutes, 8.7 ppg on 2-7 from 3 (28.6%), 6 rebounds; 2.7 assists, 1.7 steals
Currently not eligible: 6-3 175 So WVU TR Trey Doomes 21.1 minutes, 12.7 ppg on 2-3 from 3 (40%); 5.3 rpg; 2 assists, 2 steals
6-0 167 So Maurice Commander 16.2 minutes, 3.2 ppg on 14.3% from 3 and 22% from 2; 2 assists, 3.3 rebounds, 1 steal
6-6 205 Fr Grant Ledford 12.6 minutes, 3.7 ppg on 100% of his 3's and 22% of his 2's; 0.7 assists, 2.3 rebounds, 0 steals
6-4 201 Rs-So A.J. Caldwell 2 games against the weaker teams, 7.6 minutes, 4 ppg, 0.5 assists, 0.5 rebounds, 0 steals

Bahamas' games are ongoing. Chattanooga won today 95-72. Trey Doomes played about 28 minutes - most of any player - and lead the team scoring with 24 points. He hit 9-16 shots and had 10 rebounds. He only had 1 assist though.
Vila had 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Furman was also out in the Bahamas but only played 2 games. They won by 25 and 11. Noah Gurley didn't play because of a minor injury. The expected guys did well. Alex Hunter was sharpshooting with 16.5 ppg, Jordan Lyons averaged 15, Clay Mounce averaged 12 ppg, 6 rebs., rising sophomore Mike Bothwell came off the bench for 12.5 ppg. Rising junior Tre Clark and rising sophomore Jalen Slawson were the other starters. Slawson lead the rebounders with 8.5 per game.

The local teams are going to be worn out by the end of this month. Some of them are playing 6 or 7 games in less than two weeks. The team Chattanooga beat today was playing its 4th game in 6 days.

Yeesh... you're starting with teams with pretty limited talent, and you're playing them 4 games in 6 days? No wonder guys like Jean-Baptiste and Vila are putting up pinball numbers - twice as high as their SoCon averages. Can't tell much from that.

Thanks as always for the info.

The opposition in the Bahamas sounds like DII or DIII quality (108-69, please! That’s about like playing North Greenville 102-67), and it’s only summer practice. So, pretty meaningless. But one of the ‘Dins big tasks is replacing Matt Rafferty in the post. You’ve got 3 main options: Sophomore 6-7 206 Jalen Slawson and 2 Freshmen, Jonny Lawrence and Ben Beeker. Averages after 2 games:

Jalen Slawson: 24:15 minutes, 8.5 points, 6-11 from 2, 0-4 from 3, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 4.5 turnovers
Jonny Lawrence: 8:56 minutes, 1.5 points, 1.5 rebounds
Ben Beeker: 6:18 minutes, 3.0 points, 1.0 rebounds
https://www.fibalivestats.com/u/BBFN/1295505/bs.html

Long way to go, but it’s early.

In the first game of the "tour" Commonwealth Bank Giants, the team Chattanooga beat 95-72, lead Temple by 9 points with about 5 minutes to go in the game before Temple came back to nip the win. Temple won the Big East tournament this year over Villanova and was an 11 seed in the NCAA tournament. In their second game CBG beat McNeese State by 14. In their most recent game they beat Delaware 91-86. Chattanooga's win actually looks pretty good. Obviously fatigue could have been a factor, but still a good win.

The teams Furman played had an occasional D1 player on the roster. Kenny Isnord was on one of the teams. Isnord is an incoming freshman at Florida International with offers listed on Verbal Commits from Virginia Tech, Buffalo, VCU and several other D1 teams. FIU lists him at 6'9" 220.

I was there. CBG had two big guys who are players. Former college players now playing in Europe and one of those went for around 30 on us played at Univ of Texas. Those teams have individual players who are very good, but the teams are not deep. Team's rosters are somewhat fluid too. Second time I have been down there.

The Delaware CBG game came after our last game....Delaware played their first game right after our last game. Murray St arrived on Thursday...no idea how they did.

Officiating can be going along fine and then all of sudden get really wonky. There does appear to be some home court advantage. McNeese State in one of their games stopped the game and their HC told the refs either they started calling fouls or they, McNeese, were going to walk out the front door.

RE: The SoCon on May 22 2019
6-4 175 Freshman Shooting Guard Marcus Foster was the surprise of Furman's 2 game Bahamas trip. He averaged 14.5 minutes, 9 ppg leading the team with 57.1% from 3 (but only 33% from 2) and 6 rebounds per game. The box score says he was named Captain for their second game. Not bad for a guy whose only offer was the 'Dins.

Against limited competition the 'Dins looked sharp, strong defensively and running the offense well, passing to find the open man and knocking down the shot. And without key player Noah Gurley. 6-7 206 Jalen Slawson was effective in this setting (8.5 ppg on 75% from 2, 8.5 rebounds, but also 4.0 turnovers), but will need to face stronger tests.

RE: The SoCon on May 22 2019
Summary for UTC after all 3 Bahamas games:

Competition was not much: Commonwealth Bank (2-5) played a good Temple team tough, but was on their 3rd game in 4 days against Chattanooga, playing the Mocs 44-41 at the half, but folding at the end to lose 95-72. Commonwealth’s wins were over McNeese State (331st in Kenpom and 9-22; one of the worst teams in D1 last year) and Delaware (265th in Kenpom).

Their other opponents, IBA Elite (0-6) and Bahamas Select (0-3), didn't challenge anybody. In their final game the Mocs sat their top 6 early, depressing their stats, and played underclassmen and freshmen, boosting their stats.

You’ve got to like the Chattanooga front court. With the addition of 6-7 215 Vandy/Notre Dame transfer Matt Ryan and 6-7 200 Rs-JUCO Jr Rod Johnson (who is drawing comparisons to Chuck Ester from their fans) to 6-8 242 Arizona St Jr transfer Ramon Vila, they’re solid. 6-4 200 Sr swingman Jonathan Scott adds some good help, but they won’t have to rely on him as much as last year.

It is at guard that questions remain, mostly about the eligibility of Trey Doomes (12.7 ppg, 5.3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals) and 6-3 200 Wright St sophomore transfer Malachi Smith (8.7ppg, 6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 steals). Those 2 guys bring defense (3.7 steals between them), scoring, assists and steals. With David Jean-Baptiste, they form an excellent trio. Without them, the options are much less promising: limited guys like Sophomores Maurice Commander, A.J. Caldwell and Freshman Grant Ledford. They’ll probably be running swingman Jonathan Scott and maybe even Matt Ryan more at guard.

Get those two eligible and this team could contend for the top. If neither are eligible, then they’re a cut below. The Mocs say they are confident about getting Doomes, doubtful about Smith. We won't know for a while. Maryland transfer Alex Tostado, who was playing for Mexico in the Pan American games, could make a difference here once he gets aboard. All told, still lots of reasons for Moc fans to be pleased.

Ironic that Paris complained about the transfer portal, but will be featuring a team relying mostly on transfers (Ryan, Vila, Tostado and Doomes and Smith if eligible).

Yeah, but do you really expect the very raw Prosper to make much of a dent with Ryan, Vila and Johnson in the front court? I'd be extremely surprised if he does.

Two late additions to SoCon rosters for this season.

Mercer signed Jeffrey Gary, 6'4" guard, who began his career at UNCW in 2017-18. I think he was at a junior college last season and will be immediately eligible. Gary played in all 32 games as a freshman and averaged 3.7 ppg and 1.6 rebs. in 17 minutes per game.

The Citadel added 6'7" 248 lb. grad transfer Eddie Davis III from Hartford. Davis only averaged about 2 ppg as a senior at Hartford in 15 games, but the Bulldogs were badly in need of a big man with some heft, so maybe he was promised some significant playing time. The Citadel's only players over 6'6" were two skinny 6'9" freshmen.

How would that work as a grad transfer into a military school? Are they exempt from other cadet requirements?

This is the question that I had. Apparently they are exempt.

New Mercer addition 6-4 162 Jr Jeff Gary is the nephew of new head coach Greg Gary. https://mercerbears.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7288 At a rangy 6-4 point guard with a good shot, he looks like he might be a useful player who will still be around after Seniors Stair, Cummings and Dimitrijevic graduate. Video at http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/jeffrey-gary

The crying need for Mercer though is front court help which is eligible this year. 6-9 253 South Carolina Jr Transfer Felipe Haase just put up huge numbers (30 points, 14 rebounds) for Chile against Venezuela, but will supposedly have to sit this year. Does Gary have a nephew with some height and muscle???

The Citadel added 6'7" 248 lb. grad transfer Eddie Davis III from Hartford. Davis only averaged about 2 ppg as a senior at Hartford in 15 games, but the Bulldogs were badly in need of a big man with some heft, so maybe he was promised some significant playing time. The Citadel's only players over 6'6" were two skinny 6'9" freshmen.

Davis has some upside. Before Hartford he spent several years at Southern Miss, averaging 16.8 minutes, 6.1 ppg, with a .524 FG% (.305 from 3 with 0.5 makes) and 3.5 rebounds. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pla...vis-1.html

And the need is certainly there. He's bound to get every chance to play.

I wish he would be eligible this year! I’m looking forward to seeing the combo of Bender + Haase

UTC picks up yet another transfer in 6-9 230 Jr Stefan Kenic, a Serb by way of Cleveland State. He's got two years of eligibility and will need an NCAA exception to play this year. But the chaos at Cleveland State with head coach Dennis Felton resigning and 8 players leaving may give them a good shot at that. For a guy who's on record complaining about the transfer portal, Lamont Paris has now got a roster featuring 6 transfers.
https://gomocs.com/news/2019/8/19/mens-b...court.aspx

Stats for Kenic as a sophomore last year: 23.3 minutes, 7.3 ppg on .328 from 3 with 1.3 makes, 4.1 rebounds.

Per NCAA Doomes is eligible, waiver granted.

Kenic averaged 9.2 not 7.3:

Very likely that Kenic will have waiver approved...not expecting waiver for Smith, but who knows....

re: Coach Paris and the transfer rule. Just because he doesn't like it, the rule, as probably most NCAA coaches don't, he or any coach would be stupid not to take advantage of it.
