Saddi Washington
With all due respect to Coach Hawkins and what he has accomplished at WMU, isn't it time to shake up our basketball program and go after Saddi? Washington interviewed and got passed up for UM job. He would now have to work under Howard, the man he got passed up for. Seems like a potential toxic situation in Ann arbor and a chance for us pounce.
Does anyone out there know why we haven't pursued Saddi? Is it money? Loyalty to Hawkins?
The program seems to be slipping into the abyss, and our recruiting doesn't seem to be very favorable. It is time to go after Saddi.

RE: Saddi Washington
Saddi has never been a head coach.

Him being one of our all-time greatest players doesn't make him a slam-dunk as a HC any more than Howard does at U-M.

We have a coach (Hawkins) for this year.

We'll see what happens after that.

RE: Saddi Washington
Unlike Howard, Saddi is a proven recruiter and has been in the college coaching circles for 10+ years. I also think it is a unique situation with Saddi making 300k+ a year as a Michigan assistant. He is most likely not going to become a head coach at some DII or III school, because the money wouldn't make sense.

All true.

Frankly unless there's a reason we don't know about - Warde Manuel might've screwed up by not hiring Saddi to continue what Beilein built.

He was Interim HC last summer for U-M's overseas trip when Beilein had bypass surgery.

True

I'm astounded that there has been no formal announcement regarding the future of this program (after this year).

How is a coach Hawkins supposed to recruit for the 2020 class and beyond?

Competing coaches have a field day with stuff like this.

You have to wonder if something has been said "behind closed doors", no?

Fastbuick?

We're gonna miss out on Saddi, and he's gonna go to like Wisconsin Green Bay (example) and take them to a sweet sixteen and we're just gonna have to watch while Hawk dumps it down to Drake Lamont's corpse 30 times a night on a 6-12 MAC team.

RE: Saddi Washington
I've never understood the infatuation with Saddi as a possible head coach.

Yes, a good player. Yes, at time of success in the NCAA. But that's it. Good player doesn't equate to good coach. It also doesnt mean he wont be but the extrapolation and nose in the navel perspective is 03-puke

I have my issues with Hawk too but no more than I'd have with any other coach. Maybe slightly different issues as everyone is different but overall he's fine.

I understand the "Izzo" works incredibly hard perspective. There are a lot of moving parts to that equation and being roughly the same age and general life circumstances (married with children [g-children]) it isn't a zero sum game.

I also worked very closely with and knew personally a number of D1 coaches in their prime who were Final 4 participants and are HOF. There is so much involved and variable to each. You cant honestly "stamp them" as the same.

Was at a social function recently of like aged and positioned individuals one evening. After an hour I excused myself because I had prep work for a meeting I was heading the next day. The looks I got were hilarious. Attorney, semi-retired health care, IT guy, RE broker all wondered aloud why I was working at night.

Point being though we have much in common it ain't the same.

Hawk and Izzo have in common being HC's at D1 levels. They're married with children. But even being HC's at D1 level the differences start.

But he makes X$. If I were in his shoes ....blah blah blah. You are not so shut up and stop being delusional. You have no clue.

Why? He is going to take over the AD job after this season and Saddi will be named head coach. If you don't think this is already in the works, you're nuts. Book it.

And Hawkins will promote his long term assistant to HC 07-coffee3

RE: Saddi Washington
The number one job AD is to raise money. Hawk has not proven to be able to do so.

Old school.

After the number one job of raising money you use that to manage the people. Do you want money? You act a certain way, you be in a certain place, you deliver the goods at a given time or you don’t get the share of allotted.

I like the loyalty and passion Hawkins has for the university, but I think he lacks that ambition and vision I'd want in an AD.
