He’s pitching to contact, so if his location is a tad bit off or the ball isn’t moving quite as much, he gets tagged.

He’s basically going to throw 7-9 good innings or a 2-3 inning train wreck. It’s one or the other.

This feels like Rice’s game. This is the worst USM team I’ve seen since 2014, and they are not exactly coming into this game playing good baseball. And despite getting to Canterino earlier this year (thanks to walks and extra base hits), they don’t hit good pitching well.

Owls go to replay to get 3rd out of B1. 1-0 going to 2nd.

Hitters are going to have to adjust to Blue’s strike zone. Pitches off the plate are getting called. Pitches at the top of the zone not so much.

2 run HR for Trei off the scoreboard. 3-0 Owls

UH down 4-1 to ECU in the 5th. I'm not even sure how they can claim they deserve an at-large if they go 0-2.

3-0 after 3. Both pitchers with 44 pitches thrown in the first 3 innings.

Wow, just 'tuned in' to the statcast. Nice. But, I am very aware or the penchant for blowing 3 run games late these days.

And it's not like the offense is on fire. We have 4 hits through 5 innings-- 2 each by Comeaux and Cruz.

Stats update was delayed. 70 pitches thru 5.

Matt walked the leadoff batter in T5, but no further damage. 1 hit, 2 BBs, 7 Ks, 70 pitches through 5 innings. Matt has tired in the 6th in each of his last 3 outings. We really need him to go at least 7, and ideally, 8 innings today.

You are correct. The pitch count update was delayed at the end of the 5th.

Still 14 pitches per inning is pretty efficient.

1-2-3 inning for Matt in B6. 1 hit, 2 BBs, 8 Ks, 83 pitches. Hopefully, he's got a couple more quality innings in him.

Back-to-back doubles by Braden and Brad plate another Owl run and force a pitching change for USM.

4-0 Owls, 1 out T7 with runner at 2nd.

Back-to-back one-out doubles by Comeaux (3-3, BB, 2 doubles, 2 runs) and Gneiting makes it 4-0, with Rice still batting T7. New pitcher now in for USM. Unfortunately, nothing from Cruz and Dunlap, and Gneiting is stranded at 2B.

Matt is done in T7 with 1 out and runners at the corners. He was near 100 pitches. Nice nob Matt!
