Hair style, jewelry and fashion trends may come and go, but some things never change.

Doesn't really matter these days. The name will probably be changed anyway.
Bet you're the type that is quite fond of the term Memphr*ca.

Fat chance on either of those wants...lol
'Understanding' is pretty much non existent these days, and 'preservation' is iffy at best.
If natural causes don't get it, then the developers will.

Was Memphis named after a famous slaveowner?
Was Memphis named after a famous supporter of a treasonous war against America?
Have you EVER known anyone to seriously take offense to this city's name?

Sure.
How often has Washington's likeness or namesake been removed from something?

RE: 200 Years Ago Today
Here's what separates someone like Washington from someone like Forrest, and stay with me here, because it might be difficult to follow.
Washington wasn't responsible for the massacre of black soldiers nor was he associated with the freaking Ku Klux Klan.
Forrest's statue may be gone, but his place in history is not. We don't use statues to learn history.

You are right; that is very difficult to follow, but I will try.
You seem to have have swallowed perverted historical propaganda probably because of convenience.
Regardless, my point was simply that America's name change phenomenon has clearly gotten out of hand.
Nothing seems to be immune from the present day misguided societal mobs.
By the way, I no longer think that this forum is a place for such divisive topics. Besides, my point was simply as stated above.

The political insanity has just begun. I never heard of memorials being destroyed before it all started. How do we know how far it will go?

I'm not sure. I know they came for your Ku Klux Klan wizards and supporters of an American war enemy.
But my dude, I think the name of Memphis is safe.
