Which some say is th southern most third of the state...which includes the Metro East area. Closer to Kay-ro or Cars-Row, but NOT Ky-Row, there's an Egyptian Pharoah High School, Karnak, IL and various places named Little Egypt.

And Care-O. Most ppl that I know say Care-O or Care-Row. Care-Row is more of a battle cry way of saying it.

At one point Cairo had a future NBA player (Tyrone Nesby) and a future Tony, Grammy and Academy Award winner (Chris Jackson--who played George Washington in Hamilton) on the same basketball team.

Also forgot to add Chris Jackson played Delray in the play...Memphis.

Did you ever cross the Mississippi river at Vicksburg at night, back when the old creepy wooden bridge had a curve in the middle? Folks crossing needed to carry a roll of toilet paper on that crossing.

Did you ever cross the Mississippi river at Vicksburg at night, back when the old creepy wooden bridge had a curve in the middle? Folks crossing needed to carry a roll of toilet paper on that crossing.

There was this narrow draw-bridge...somewhere in Arkansas over a river. Opened wide up. Sometimes you had to wait till it closed.

The pavement changed to wood I think, and the car had to climb to get to the top lol then back down.

Scared the bejeezus outta me as a little kid.

There was a bridge that crossed the Red river, a few miles north of Texarkana that Separated Texas from Arkansas and called Index bridge. It was so old and decrepit there was hardly a Saturday night but what some drunk would meet his maker there.

I can vouch for your statement. My father drives a wide car and we white knuckled the ride over while praying for no oncoming semis.

Memphis, aka 'enduring and beautiful' is one of the oldest city names in civilization. Formerly the ancient capital of Egypt and also the name of a Pyramid close to the city; the name has meant and implied many different things. It still does.

It's a great name for our City. No doubt one of the founders had studied History and appreciated the significance and strategic similarities between Ancient Memphis and our spot on the bluff by the great river.

I doubt it gets changed- ever.

When I was at the tender young age of 12 in the Boy Scouts we did a 32 mile hike (in 95 degree heat) around the Mississippi River at Cairo IL. to qualify for a "Hiking Merit Badge"

It was pronounced Kay - Row like the Syrup & I always liked that Syrup as a kid after that hike.

I am not going to get into the good and bad, I think for the 200th, we need to concentrate on the good, what we accomplished, etc.

I think with UM's great success in basketball and football has contributed to the unification of the city. I feel as UM succeeds, so will the city.
