I’m not sure how much you actually understand Scandinavian style democratic socialism, but your posts on this thread exhibit something of a disconnect. Scandanavia’s grand experiment with socialism has deep seated roots in private ownership and public stewardship. That’s the democratic part of it. The socialism part stems from the desires of a homogenous populace who already agree on a long list of issues and are willing to compromise in the things they don’t agree on. In essence, it’s a socialist package controlled in a transparent manner by a government largely free of (until recently) of special interest interference.
None of that describes the currently en vogue socialist policies of the far left. All of their policies rely heavily on massive wealth redistribution, special interest politics, and heavy government control. They can’t even come up with a climate change policy that doesn’t involve intimate government control of private lives, massive shifts in wealth and control of income, and heavy catering to special interests.
As to wondering why people think you are comparing Scandinavia to America, you do realize you are in a thread titled, “70% of Democrats say socialism would be good for America”, don’t you?

Social security is a form of socialism by appearance at least. One thing starkly different between social security vs a true blue socialism is that individuals "own" a piece of the trust fund that is dependent upon what the individual pays into it. Given the gov't management of the trust fund plus the rules (and compulsory nature of the program itself) it seems to be a quasi-socialist program IMHO.
Social security is an annuity contract. The gov't is the custodian of these assets; however, it would be no different than if you were paying into a deferred annuity managed by a private insurance company. Does the gov't managing something by itself automatically cause it to be a socialist program?
You can argue that you are forced to participate in social security so in reality the gov't "owns" those funds. However, the gov't is also constrained by how those funds are to be distributed because high salary earners by law have to get a larger share of the trust fund vs a low salary earner. Also, being forced to participate in a program does not automatically make it socialism. We are forced to carry auto insurance. But we choose who we purchase the insurance from. So it's not compulsion by itself.
I think there is no question that the foodstamp program and the various other forms of welfare are socialist programs. The gov't "owns" the assets thru taxes, and the gov't distributes welfare to people who have zero claim on these benefits due to contributions into a program.
IDK. Social Security is definitely a socialist style program. However, I question the gov't being owners of these assets since the program is clearly an annuity contract on an individual level. However, the gov't does manage the program.

That is the whole problem with the likes of Bernie and AOC and their ilk. They keep saying they want Sweden, but the specific policies they advocate are closer to the Soviets or Cuba. Their approach is capitalism with a safety net. Everybody benefits, and everybody pays. The democrats say, oh, we don't want to be like Russia, we don't want secret police and gulags. Except one problem. You don't do massive redistribution without force, and that's where the secret police and the gulags become necessary.

Why are the secret police and gulags necessary?....... because the morons that clamor for it initially eventually figure out it doesn't deliver on what is promised. In fact, every time and everywhere it's been tried it fails miserably and those in power use the secret police and gulags to keep the miserable, unhappy dumb a$$es in line so they can stay in power..........
It's pretty simple. Sell the lemmings on a false "utopia", then control them with a police/prison apparatus to stay in power.
I'm not for socialism, but it's not always police/prison apparatus.
Scandinavia is all pretty much socialist to the core. And they're some of the nicest countries I've ever been to. Well run. Maintained. Clean. Happy, educated, thriving people with thriving economies.
