USM football schedules Miami as well as 4 game series with Troy
Considering our AD came from Troy (actually started as asst AD at USM, went to Troy as AD, then came back to USM as AD) as well as the close proximity this was probably a given. The Miami one is definitely out of the blue in my opinion

Southern Miss faces the Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sept. 10, 2022. This will mark the first-ever football meeting between the two schools.
Southern Miss and Troy will also face off with each school enjoying two home games between the 2021-2029 campaigns.
The Golden Eagles are set to play host to the Trojans at M.M. Roberts Stadium, Sept. 18, 2021, and again, Sept. 1, 2029. Southern Miss will travel to Troy Sept. 24, 2024, and Sept. 16, 2028.

You might as well pencil in an fcs opponent for every single year. The gate is too good for us not to, and we won’t give up the easy win when a mediocre staff needs to keep getting bowl eligible to keep their jobs.
