Who knows how far we are down the list of ESPNs CFB priorities along with all the other sports and leagues. And the games are on Saturdays with normal crowds.
The ratings will be awful though. Fans of those programs will go to the game on a Saturday while "casual" fans and recruits will be watching other game on television that day since it is wall to wall.

Playing devil’s advocate here but how is that really any different from us? Joe Q. Public isn’t whipping out his fire stick and searching thru the FCS games on ESPN3 to find us mixed within when the network channels with the P5 are easier to navigate. Trust me, for me to watch SBC football it’s a process. I like the NFL deal to be honest and I think we would be pretty stoked had we landed it IMO.
I am glad you asked. When you are the only game on a weeknight there are sports junkies and recruits tuning in because they don't enjoy HGTV or Hallmark. We get some games on weekends on TV when playing P5 opponents and those are great opportunities to reach an audience that otherwise will not tune in to see our games.

All the weekend games are easily available on your smart TV in the SBC if you are a fan and want to see your team. Those are the only people who will tune in on a weekend anyhow.

It's the best situation for everyone to sacrifice a weeknight attendance to promote the conference while still allowing every game to be viewable on the ESPN platform on the weekends.
There is no doubt that there is some truth to what you're saying. I suppose it's simply a judgement call on whether one thinks the pros of playing on TV outweigh the cons of killing attendance. For me personally, they do not.

Tech has had to play lots of weeknight games, many dating back to our days in the WAC. While it worked fairly well if we were hosting a ranked Boise, Fresno, or Hawaii, if we were playing SJSU or Idaho, attendance absolutely sucked. Those type of weeknight games absolutely kill any sense of a college game day experience.

Good for CUSA. On the NFLN games, it gives them a chance for more casual fans to catch a game. Like other G5 teams, if they show well and have a good season, they can get some "decent" fans out of it.

Tougher to do with the games on ESPN+. You're not gonna get many casual fans clicking in (just those that are waiting for their team to start playing, so they'll click a game that's on).

It's a good move for them regardless. NFLN is pretty much "basic" cable for anyone that has a sports package I believe (honestly didn't know the BEIN network was the same), and it's a "name" channel... far more than BEIN. So it's a win on all sides for them.

I wouldn't be surprised to see NFL Network try and reach a similar agreement with the MWC as they are about to renegotiate their TV contract.

Yeah, I like this deal . . . and the more I think about it, the more I like it. Exposure on a National Network can't be bad. Would love to see the Belt with a similar deal.

I don’t really care about it being the NFL network, I’ve never had it and don’t intend to get it.

What I do like is having a forum for Saturday marquee games. I hope to see Apo State vs Ga Sou on Saturday again in my lifetime (I’m 32 LOL)

Same. How much longer are we exclusive with ESPN?

I'm surprised you don't have it. Most folks that have basic cable these days have the NFL network.

Since CUSA, MWC and AAC are going to have games shift from network to network it probably will open up some spots for Friday Night and noon on Saturdays on ESPN2/U for more SBC games. I'd expect something within the next year about it.

That is not the case for a lot of systems, they are on higher tiers just like CBSSN.

The basic cable is the issue. We have amazon prime/Netflix/Hulu and YouTube tv/espn+for months we use it.

Even if I had nfl network, I’d never watch it.

It will not open up any spots, unfortunately. Here is one typical weekend for CUSA football from last season:

October 13th 2018
Louisiana Tech at UTSA (ESPN+)
Marshall at Old Dominion (Stadium/Facebook)
Middle Tennessee at Florida International (beIN)
Southern Miss at North Texas (ESPN3)
UAB at Rice (ESPN+)
Western Kentucky at Charlotte (ESPN+)
FAU, UTEP off

CUSA can move one of these games to Saturday afternoon on NFLN and it changes nothing. The MWC has 22 games on CBSSN and 22 games on the ESPN family of Networks. If the MWC decides to cut the same deal with the NFLN that CUSA just did, they will just give them ten games that were not broadcast on either of their primary two networks. The AAC deal does not change much, it may make it more difficult for a conference like the Sun Belt to find their way on Linear TV.

NFL Network is nothing like CBSSN. If you don’t have NFL Network, you are paying for the bare bones of whichever platform being used.

Actually yes. 5 of their shows are going off the air due to budget cuts. I bet airing self-produced CUSA content will fit with their new financial model perfectly

They are restructuring their investment. Some of the shows they are cutting have been around for a period of time and likely have stagnated. Seems their money moving is about ROI rather than simply cutting programming.
