RE: Are locals McMillan IV and Griffith a fair litmus test for Brannen's Recruiting?
Lots of talented guys on campus in the previous and coming days, many of which are in-state or nearby. I'm confident that Wes and company are going to bring in some studs for the 2022 and 2023 classes. I think we're going to see recruiting on par with Mick's better classes, with potential for even better recruiting in the future as the staff establishes itself as a destination for high-end talent. In addition to making in-roads with the local players, Chad Dollar is one of the top recruiters in the south -- especially in talent-rich Georgia.

Top is a bit hyperbolic, but he is pretty good. He got 5 Top 100 recruits to commit to Georgia in two years...I mean, that's at least a feather in his cap that no one wearing red and black ties has been able to claim since the early 2000s.

Yeah, I probably did go over the top. But I'm really pumped and it's almost impossible to contain my excitement for the current state of UC hoops.

You weren't hyperbolic at all. If you had said one of the top in the nation, sure, but I'd say 5 Top 100 recruits to a school with little basketball history would make you one of the top recruiters in a single region. Now let's hope that success translates.

This.
It's one thing to look at the name "Georgia" and think "oh, it's a top tier SEC school, it recruits for itself". That's not nearly the case. While Georgia football is one of the best-funded programs in all of college football, Georgia basketball is 2nd-to-worst funded programs in the SEC, coming in just ahead of Mississippi State in annual budget.
Now, part of the spike in talented recruits in the past few years could certainly be attributed to the pedigree that Tom Crean had when he joined the program but a lot of that was due to Chad Dollar. Hell, he himself was involved in the recruitment of Anthony Edwards and was the lead recruiter on Christian Brown, Georgia's 7th best signee of all time (per 247 Sports). Tack onto that the guys he convinced to play at Georgia Tech such as Robert Carter and Marcus Georges-Hunt who are still among the top signees in the history of that program.
I don't know how you could look at his resume and think he isn't one of the top recruiters in the nation.

So Jones got an offer after his visit, but McMillan did not...I think that pretty much shows everything we need to know and I'm perfectly fine with that based on the tape.

So during recruiting, coaches are telling the players how great they are. So how do the coaches word it for the situation you outlined above?
Did they tell him they’re interested but they’re not sure if they have enough spots. Clearly he knows now from Twitter that his competition got offered. They don’t come right out and say he’s their second or third option.
I know Savino and Mick sometimes would not offer. They would say we want to see you play hard all the time. One player said that They need to see more consistent effort. And then after they displayed it they got the offer from us.

That's just odd to me. How can Wes not offer McMillan. That kid is a stud. Even if you think Jones is the better PG you can't have too many good PG's on the roster and you need to let the Ohio kids know that they are a priority. There's enough talent in Ohio that if you only got Ohio kids you could field a Top 25 team every year. It boggles my mind that UC isn't offering every high 3-star or better Ohio kid every year.

#1 The thought is McMillan has plateaued a bit. Jones is a much better athlete and had a much better spring.
#2 It is absolutely not true that you could build a 25 team with only Ohio kids. It's not a very good basketball state. Yes, the next two classes are very good but generally it's filled with MAC level talent.

If so, I imagine Wes reinforced that during the visit but Griffith didn't feel the need to add that to his posting? You can't not offer a player of Griffith's stature who comes for a personal visit to my way of thinking--with apologies to our resident grammarians for the double negative.

The classic line is "we think you have more in you and we want to see it."
Worked for Gary Clark.

Can you expound on that? Is Melvin L a basketball trainer?
How did it go?
What else can you tell us?

“He just wanted to build a relationship with me and my family before he takes the next steps,” McMillan said.
