2019 Recruiting Class - Memphis Historical Equivalents
I thought it would be interesting to see where our current class ranks compared to recruits since 2004. That was the first year that Cal started killing it every year.
To the few Tubby defenders who insisted to the bitter end that the 130th ranked player in the 2016 class was equivalent to the 60th ranked player in the whatever class before that, because of ratings trumping rankings and it was supposedly a deep class; go take a hike.
The list shows the hit and miss nature of recruiting, but to those who say that rankings are meaningless (which makes no sense), it also shows that for the most part, the more highly ranked recruits you sign, the better your chances are for success.
1 James Wiseman
Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans
14 Precious
DWash, Will Barton, Adonis
17 Trendon Watford
Shawne Williams, Joe Jackson, Jelan Kendrick, Austin Nichols
37 Boogie
Jeff Robinson, Wesley Witherspoon, Shaq, Kuran Iverson, Dedric
48 DJ
Antonio Anderson, Willie Kemp, Angel Garcia, Nick King, KJ Lawson
56 Lester Quinones
CDR, Tarik Black, Doneal Mack
98 Dandridge
Nick Marshall
108 Damion Baugh
Markel Crawford, Chris Crawford
Expectations should be sky high but it doesn't mean that every player is going to be great. What is encouraging is that most of them should turn out to be really good 4 year players. Some will stay here and others will leave like King, Markel and Robinson did.
Wiseman, and Precious should be one and done and Tucker has one year, but we have a nucleus of great prospects that should be here for at least 2 seasons.
