Penny changing AD's coaching decisions
Juwan Howard to Michigan?

https://247sports.com/college/michigan/A...132126140/

I doubt he even gets an interview before Penny blew up.

RE: Penny changing AD's coaching decisions
Not surprised.

The thing those ADs don't realize is while you can hire a Stackhouse, Howard, etc. you likely won't hit gold like Penny.

The difference b/w others and Penny was that he was a SUPERSTAR for at least about 5-6 years. He had commercials, alter ego, and shoes that still sell today as we all know along with his high school/grassroots ties.

You can't say that about Stackhouse or Howard or Ewing.

Most of these guys won't be as effective as Penny has been. I'm hoping Pat Ewing does though.

Good luck to them. They are in a fairly horrible position with a quality HC leaving at the end of the recruiting period, and the top recruit wanting out of his NLI.

This is likely to be an unmitigated disaster, and they may not realize it until 2 years from now. And then they will find themselves in a position to have to "fire" one of their favorite sons.

I think Howard will be overall successful. Being part of the Fab Five, his name is still recognizable. Plus he has had a lot of experience coaching in the NBA, although not as a HC. I don't think he will have quite the success recruiting nationally like Penny has but I think he will be a force in the Midwest and surrounding area.

Penny has an extra "it" factor a lot of other former NBA players don't have with the kids.

Penny has a shoe and ties in AAU. That gave him a leg up on recruiting.

I am not going to piss all over this because that is exactly how everyone in America responded when we hired Penny. Maybe there are deeper roots than we are aware of...

You have to have charisma to do what Penny (and Mike do); Penny is a PR machine and that’s why we are going to sellout the Forum most games but most importantly every seat that requires a donation (the good seats) are almost gone per AD Friday.

Juwan Howard likely gets an interview regardless of Penny. He's been an assistant coach for years. Played the the A for years. Played at Michigan. He also has two kids who may be good enough to play for Michigan.

RE: Penny changing AD's coaching decisions
The reason why Penny had the "it" factor is due to his personality.

He comes across as genuine and people tend to gravitate towards that.

Not to mention, he has a swagger and style about him that just exudes class and cool.

Very likable.

Rich, good looking, and single.

One cent, lil Penny, etc, etc
