RE: UVA on our basketball court?
Had to get my numbers straight:
Union Bank and Trust's deal is $2.25M over ten years, and their logo will be all over everything about that building.
UVA Orthopedics is $3.5M over seven years, and they get a stamp on the floor in the bench area.

They could put UVA at mid-court if they move the student seats back up close to the court.

JMU's leaders must be bad negotiators if the only way to get the donation needed was to be the first university to advertise another school's name on our home floor.

I agree 100%, there is a HUGE difference in a page in the football program OR advertisement on the bball gameday program OR signage on the concourse OR even signage on the scores table/banner AND it literally being on the freaking court (I see no difference in apron/baseline/sideline).......rest assured if an organization is paying $3.5 million it will not be covered by seats or obscured on gameday.

I will be patiently waiting to see DUKE Med pop up on the UVA bball court apron. I mean I am sure it would not be a big deal whatsoever as long as the paid for it right? That is what I am hearing folks say that see this as no big deal.

It’s all about optics. And smell. It looks bad and it stinks.

Hey, while JMU is putting in a new rug at BFS, why doesn’t JB sell some sideline space and have UVA’s name added to the new carpet? Makes about as much sense.

Longhorn you can thank the Showker family for that new rug BTW, and their name will be on it.

I was wondering if the Showker's would be making sure Zane's name stayed with us. Thanks!

This puts it into perspective, but those who need to see it will refuse to accept that just because of "ROAR F UVA!!!!"

I don't feel the animosity about UVA and Tech that I once did. Heck the last time we played each in Football we beat them. I rooted for UVA to win the NC this year. I'm over they got Sampson from us.

not ideal, but in the absence of other options, I am fine with it.

more of the same on here. is there anything that wont cause an over reaction

- flosports
- caa
- sponsorship deal
- hoops coach
- conference affiliation
- alger, bourne

with such incompetence, it is no surprise our teams have no success and play in subpar facilities. I hope things get better soon......

I hate UVA with a passion but this doesn't bother me. We are the ones that got their money and they will be responsible for our program getting better. In return they get a few white letters that our players will be walking all over for a few years.
It's not like it's a lifelong commitment. Seven years to have a few white letters on the apron for 3.5 million dollars?
This could have been prevented if we had a donor that would have spent that much money. People want JMU to bring in high donors, but when the high donor has a name you don't like that's different.

Hey, while JMU is putting in a new rug at BFS, why doesn’t JB sell some sideline space and have UVA’s name added to the new carpet? Makes about as much sense.

Given the additional eyes, let's say they were willing to pay $7 million for 7 years to be along the sideline in BFS. Are you saying you would turn down having UVA Orthopedics in small text outside of the sideline on the field? We're talking about a million dollars per year...you would turn that down?

Absolutely!!! It is not worth it to place another schools name on your actual playing field/surface. Signage around the stadium fine, playing surface absolutely not.

Would you be 'OK' if UR wanted to place a few red spiders on the 'sideline' if they paid for it?

Every single UVA fan/alum I have talked to sees JMU as a total 'joke' for doing this. As one Alum, said.....'Well if you cannot get into UVA at least you can feel good about UVA claiming some space on that brand new basketball court' This decision screams small-time.

I mean did Bourne, King, and Alger not look at each other and say is this really a good idea.

That's a bold claim. You know this how? You've been to, what, a dozen D1 university basketball courts? Maybe 2 dozen? So...verging on 7% of the D1 universities in America.
