Haven’t been around much so admittedly not as plugged in, but today it was announced the Louisville vs EKU game will be on ACC Network Extra.

Guess I assumed ACCNE was going away with the launch of a true channel but that’s not the case, huh?

ACCN Extra was always part of the plan to carry overflow games and Olympic sports. SECN Plus serves the same function for the SEC.

Bingo. And, we want it to exist. Not only for the obvious thousands of online broadcasts for baseball, volleyball, etc., but it is a terrific repository for watching games in replay mode - especially if you miss the game of interest live.

Further, I am hopeful some of the future shows that will ultimately get going on ACC Network will be available for viewing online via ACC Network Extra. In other words, you have to figure there will be daily FB & MBB roundtable shows (think ACC SportsCenter), weekend preview shows, and other special interest shows focusing on the ACC. Hopefully those kinds of shows will be available online via ACC Network Extra. I can record via DVR of course if it isn't loaded to 100% by my wife's endless Investigation Discovery shows. 03-thumbsup

Yes...
ACC Network Extra will still exist

While the ACC Network will reduce the number of high-profile games broadcast on ACC Network Extra (which is streaming-only) it won’t eliminate the use of the option that has frequently received mixed reviews from customers.

For the most part, marquee games will still be placed primarily on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2, with the ACC Network taking the next games in the pecking order. The least attractive football and basketball games will continue to be on ACC Network Extra.

(ACC Network Extra) will still carry some (football and basketball games),” Wildhack said. “When you look at the schedule, particularly non-conference, where you have more inventory, you need the overflow channel. The ACC Network Extra presents that opportunity. ... That’s still an important part. It’s there to complement and ensure that fans can watch every event.”

Non-revenue sports will also be broadcast with frequency on ACC Network Extra.

The ACC and ESPN will likely continue to put a handful of attractive games on ACC Network but a reasonable way to think about the channel is to anticipate that it will broadcast the games that have traditionally been placed on local television and regional sports networks through the league’s Raycom Sports agreement, as well as some additional games.

TRANSLATION: Some weekends there are just too many ACC-vs-FCS and/or ACC-vs-G5 games, so some of them have to fall to ACCNE.

Rx: If ACC teams would, IDK, work with each other (gasp! I know, right?) to avoid having 13 games on one weekend and then only 4 games on another weekend - this could be 100% avoided and EVERY game could be on actual TV! Look at the games on ACCNE so far:

Richmond at Boston College
North Carolina A&T at Duke
Eastern Kentucky at Louisville

ALL on Saturday 9/7! Move those same games to, say, week 6 (Oct 5th) when there are only 4 games and VOILA! no more ACCNE games. So simple an Athletic Director's assistant could do it. And since these are all FCS buy games, I'm guessing the opponents would be willing to work around it, too.
