I am not overly excited by Vogt. We should give the kid a chance.

I am mildly encouraged that he thought enough of Brannen to want to follow him.
I am mildly encouraged that Brannen thought enough of Vogt to accept him.

Now we need a point guard / ball handler.

Brannen knows him

Good points. I think familiarity with Brannen's system and in each other is huge at this stage in the game. I don't know what this kid can bring to the team talent/skill-wise and in quality minutes but it's not like he has to morph into Joel Embiid to come near Brooks' or Nsoeme's playing level with all due respect.

This kids a bigger guy than i thought he was. It will be interesting to see how much bulk he adds over the summer with Rehfeldt. As tall as he is, he could end up 300 lbs. by the time he graduates.

It's funny you bring that up as before Brannen had all the signings the past 10 days or so i heard Brendel talking on the radio that Lorenz Metz is now measuring out at about 6'10 330 at the tackle position for the football team. I was wondering if he could play bball. Considering he has 4 more years of eligibilty including the upcoming season he will be interesting to watch. I just wonder if he's still growing. lol

Holy cow, that's insane. Is that going to affect his center of gravity in a negative way? I can't recall any successful tackles that were over 6'8".

Edit: Jonathan Ogden was 6'9" and is in the HOF. Still, 6'10" seems too tall for tackle to me.

Yeah, at 6'10" your CoG is so high that it starts to hinder your ability to gain leverage unless you are incredibly technically sound and able to stay low (two things Ogden was phenomenally good at).

Completely agree. Especially for a newcomer to football it seems teaching someone to get leverage at that height is going to be difficult. Ogden is the exception to the rule but at his height I think he's playing the wrong sport. Or you could use him on the DL; wasn't Margus Hunt ridiculously tall.

I think JW kind of summed it up well:

"That's a big dude," said safety James Wiggins. "Once he gets on the field he changes. He's funny and always talking to me outside of football, but once he gets on the field you don't want to mess with him. You do not want to mess with him."

Interesting, seemed like a guy that could’ve really benefited from the year of sitting out but what do I know?

I'll take the depth. I view him likely better than Sorolla so it's a great addition. We can recruit more talent at the 5 in future classes.

former NFL star ED ' TOO TALL' JONES had a nice career.

I think both he and Sorrolla are legit 7ft's from seeing them last night. Very, very large guys.

Having Vogt eligible makes me feel much better about our frontcourt depth. Diarra looks ready to give 15-20 minutes if needed, we have two 7-footers with experience, and obviously we know what we have in Tre Scott. Plus I think there will be times when we play with 4 guards, so I think we now have plenty of depth.

Diarra looks like he is ready to play a big role. Remains to be seen how the rotation will play out, but he causes match up problems with his size and ability to step out and hit shots. I expect big things from him in the future. He may have to wait his time, but I think he will play an important role this season with some big moments.

RE: Chris Vogt transfers to UC
the best thing about having vogt eligible a year early (outside of inside depth) is opening up another spot for the '22 class

Agree completely! I liked bringing him in as a stop gap. Late in the recruiting cycle we desperately needed a big body. He provided that along with familiarity with Brannens system and a “buy in” guy to help bring confidence in our coach to the rest of the roster. I think he can help a bit right away on the court and help even more in the locker room. Not taking up the roster spot an extra year so we can bring in somebody with a higher ceiling sooner is huge news! He’s an important transition piece, but now coach Brannen can start building sooner!

Most here agreed losing Brooks hurt some. With that said, what are people's thoughts on what Vogt's skill set is? Will we see better offense down low and take a step back defensively? Other than the minutes he played against UC for NKU last year, I really don't know what to expect. But more size inside immediately has to help in certain matchups throughout the season.

Not an answer to your question exactly, but here are my thoughts: Brooks is a better player than Vogt or Sorolla, but with Brooks frequently being in foul trouble, there are times we will be better off having two big guys who can contribute.
