This signing reeks of DESPERATION. His offers out of high school were Kent State, Western KY, Tulsa, and Midd Tenn St. He should be playing at the mid-major level - not for a program with any aspirations of earning an at-large NCAA bid within the next 4 years.

He averaged 4 points per game playing in a LOW MAJOR league full of dying programs with little semblance of talent.

Can Brannen not sign a single player who didn't grow up within 5 minutes of a Skyline Chili???

Edit: ^^^Just watched his highlights. Okay, I'm on board. He could turn out to be halfway decent.

I would like to introduce you to the offer lists of three of the last signees from our previous coach...Trevor Moore, Eliel Nsoseme, and Logan Johnson 03-lmfao

There are 13 scholarships to burn, my as well use one on a 7-1 guy. However I will be concerned if this means JB considers him a 2 year starter going forward and recruits around that accordingly. Hopefully JB explained the situation, and he realizes he may just be a bench player at least until his Senior year.

Also, it may also be nice to have a player who has played 2 years under this staff, to help familiarize the rest of the team.

I think that always helps the new coaching staff to have a guy the understands what he wants. If anyone has any college teaching experience it’s always nice to have a familiar student that understands your expectation. Getting young adults on the same page isn’t always an easy thing to do when you are new. A friendly face or two helps.

LOL, loving the new optimistic Bearcat Banter.

Brannen knows the kid better than anyone, so he must think he can play at this level. If Cumberland is coming back, though, we need some more guys for next season.

Here is a link to Vogt's 24/7 profile coming out of high school. He was listed as a 3* with a .8542 score. 33rd ranked center and 4th ranked player in Kentucky.

Looks like a decent depth piece.

NCAA tournament is Cumberland, Scott, Williams, a decent point guard and a center that can protect the rim.

If things work out as we hope and both Cumberlands are here our roster would be at ten. It would be great if there is a grad point guard and grad center out there who could provide some minutes rather than going the junior college route. That would leave on open spot also for a younger class transfer like Bolton to sit out next year with Vogt. This scenario would mean we would have four openings for recruits in 2020.

With the way CJB stretches the floor, Vogt has to be pretty athletic for his size?

Hard for him to be a stop gap for CJB’s 1st year since he’s going to have to sit his first year. He’s a sit 1 play 2 guy so he won’t help with this coming seasons depth.

Vogt should improve tremendously just from practicing against Diarro and Scott. He'll help us

this was just like a formality it appears. i woulda been cool with soso staying. easy guy to root for. this vogt feller is a serious liability at the free throw line and he most likely didn't have a form altering injury. not sure how much healthy hands woulda help eliel.... this vogt feller backed up their star right? it's just nice to get some bodies

Jamaree Strickland, David Nyarsuk, Kelvin Gaines, Adam H, Eliel...because they were all highly recruited and everyone wanted them too

You guys spent years whining about recruiting those type of guys (throwing in Adam H is desperate though). Now we get NKU's backup center who was rated in the 400s coming out of high school, who can't even help next year when we still should have some high-level talent that could use a few complementary parts, plus he's going to take up 3 years of a scholarship to play just 2, and the response from the everything-sucks crowd is positive? It doesn't say much for the consistency of your positions.

I will again say that I'm cool with Vogt because Brannen knows him and thinks he can play here. We need some guys for next year, though, because we aren't going to get a player the caliber of a senior-year Cumberland for at least a couple of years, so it'd be nice to put some pieces around him and have a great season in 2020.

RE: Chris Vogt transfers to UC
Here's how I view the situation. Might not be in line with everyone else's opinion but how I see it.

- NKU played small. Vogt and McDonald were usually only on the floor together for a couple minutes per game. Brannen surrounded McDonald with shooters. It was working - he wasn't going to change that, hence the 13 MPG for Vogt.

- Let's say Vogt was playing for a different Horizon league team, say Wright State or Oakland where he's not behind the CPOY. I assume he would nearly double his minutes at those schools. So how would everyone feel if he averaged 9 PPG, 8 RPG, and 2.5 BPG in 26 minutes? I think a lot of people see "NKU" and "4.5PPG" and just think it's a lazy move.

- I appreciated the effort Ellie played with. He brought it every second he was in the game. He was just not showing any signs of progress on the offensive side of the ball. Didn't have great hands (I know his finger was hurt) and didn't have the footwork. I certainly wish him well at his next stop.

People generally think he's a plus replacement for Nsoseme as a back up center at worst. Nobody seems to be claiming he's a star int he making. Feels like the response to this signing have been appropriate and not excessive.
