If Glass gets hurt all bets are off. Zero experience among the backups, other than Stiebeling, who is probably 4th on the depth chart.

Exactly. We don't know if any of our backup QBs are capable of getting the job done. They're promising and have nice Hudl videos, but outside of a few spring ball reps and less than 10 game snaps for Grissom, they haven't shown/proven that they can be trusted with full game(s) if Glass went down.

Let's focus on beating NIU/UT/WMU with consistency before we start saying that winning the division is an expectation, even if this is CC's 6th yr.

It might be that if an injury comes to Glass, maybe the new JUCO recruit loses his redshirt if he is the best prepared of the QBs.

Is Isaac Steibeling still on the roster? Because last time i checked he has more wins than anyone else posting on this board. For the first time since I've been a fan - we have real depth at QB. I'm not worried.

1. QB wins is quite the statistic to cling onto.
2. That Bowling Green defense that EMU barely beat (in a game that didn't matter) was garbage.
3. The QB depth really is awesome. I think this is one of Creighton's strengths in building EMU's program: creating a ton of competition at quarterback.

I agree with Mr. MAC Prospectus on this one. Alex you nailed it, QB depth is critical and Creighton has addressed it in a big way. Wiegers was a 'bridge" that worked out for him and EMU both, he played a lot here but simply did not have the skill sets to excel or ascend any further. Now we have Grissom and Jackson who are just flat out athletic, I assume any loser in this QB competition would be offered a position change, that would benefit everyone. I like where we are at.

Don't sell Steibeling short. He is effective as an option running the ball. Other QBs may have more buzz but if Glass went down he could help us win. Ditto Hutchinson who can also run and has a hell of an arm. Again we have depth at this position with ALL of the guys who had time to be comfortable with Keen's system and teammates.

I guess my thinking is that the fact that all the QBs on the roster have similar playing styles will help a lot IF glass gets hurt. Instead of switching from a running qb to a pocket qb you can have continuity.

I have EMU going 8-4 and winning the mac west.

I'll believe it when I see it. Those two are OK, but they're not *that* good.

CC and both offensive coordinators have always wanted a combo QB which is why they went with Reggie Bell over Roback. They corrected that mistake later.

Agreed. CC has consistently said that every recent year he has coached he has seen 2 qb's play. Very tight between all other qb's not named Glass. I would go with a younger guy in Jackson or Grissom

I've been to the last two, missed the one before that (lived out of state), but been to probably 7 of the last 9?

Stiebeling threw two passes last year, which is two more than Hutch. Can we just pump the brakes just a little bit?

RE: Pre-Season Rankings
Having been to back to back spring games my observations are these:

Jackson in 2018 really struggled in his sets. I don't recall seeing Grissom play.
Stiebeling was not overly impressive. Jackson would have been a true frosh and enrolled in January of that year so his struggles are understandable. Hutchinson had very limited time but threw a nice TD bomb.

2019-Jackson hurt so we didn't see him play. Stiebeling struggled in my opinion. Hutchinson had much more playing time and ran in a TD and looked solid. Grissom was also impressive running and passing the ball.

Anyone else who attended both games want to share their thoughts/

Also don't forget that CC brought in Porter who started over Roback for a while.

If we back this up, this is why I said that nobody else has proven that they can lead this team at QB because they haven't had those game reps. The last two guys were in their first years at EMU (I know Grissom took classes, but didn't practice. Whatevs. You know what I mean) while Isaac was in his fourth year of being on campus.

I really don't understand what point you're trying to make here, man. Those guys had nice plays in a few practices we got to see. If the coaches agreed with your eyes and thought they'd be worthy of more playing time, don't you think they'd have it? But if you think they're both really good and I think they're both not as good as you think they are, then that's fine.

What matters most, and we should probably angle this thread start talking more about, is getting the most production & execution out of Glass while we still can, because he'll be the QB that'll be getting somewhere between 80-99% of the snaps this season (assuming he's healthy all year, of course).

Well Glass being healthy for all 12 games I hope that will true but the problem with a dual threat QB who can run... look at Bell Jr. when he was here

RE: Pre-Season Rankings
Dear Friends,
This whole second page of Pre-Season Rankings has been about quarterbacks. Positions can affect how people think of why certain teams should be ranked above others, but to my way of thinking it's based on last year's record. That's why the Orlando paper put Buffalo ahead of us even though they lost a boat load of people including their quarterback.

Dear ARAlvarado13,
You just echoed what I said earlier. That any player will generally get better the more they play. It is not absolute, but maybe 80% true. So, if any quarterback gets more reps they should develop into what you thought was their potential.

Certainly. Just as long as the best-possible option is on the field at all times, idc who it is. But it is fun to see what a QB does to project the team, no?

Honestly, I haven't read the Orlando paper's previews because I gravitate to other outlets for that, but I saw everyone on here talking about the UB-EMU discrepencies. It's only a couple more weeks until we find out what Phil Steele has to say.

Steel will be the only one brave enough to pick us above 4th in the MAC west
