Maybe we can add a BB series, too. Good BB program. We should try...

Have we quit trying to schedule home games with a power conference team?

It kinda rare these days when a P5 school visits a G5 school, like VaTech visited Old Dominion last year ( OD won it 04-rock).

As HCBC said at the Regions Golf Tournament, teams don't want to play UAB(FB) and its really getting difficult to schedule...

I'd love to play them in basketball. Did we try to schedule them?

I'm pretty excited about this! Especially since UAB was able to delay the return trip to 2025. They finished 30th in passing offense last year, but 96th in total offense.

I'd lose my ish if they're able to get a hoops series with them too. NMSU is one of my favorite teams to follow.

Weren't they the originators of the "I believe that we will win" chant, or at least the ones who made it famous?

As HCBC said at the Regions Golf Tournament, teams don't want to play UAB(FB) and its really getting difficult to schedule...

P5 programs prefer to always play OOC games as high profit home games - or special for TV - neutral site games at dome type venues. By refusing to play the better G5 opponents at all, they can always fall back on the "Who have they played?" plea to prevent the inclusion of such teams as UCF from playoff competition. Who "they" have played is public record while who has refused to play them is not. (How many OOC home games has LSU lost since UAB in 2000?)

That is one reason why the coach proposed 9 conference game idea is doomed since it would mean that a high profit G5 home game would have to be sacrificed every other year for a lower profit conference game. No "bottom line oriented" P5 AD would agree to that deal.

If they drop to FCS before 2025, do we still have to go to their place? Do they have a plan for joining a conference? Are they on a deadline?

They are an hour past El Paso. I know one person who would consider that in bus range from Birmingham.

Twenty-something years ago when I was in Scouts we took a bus to Philmont in New Mexico. It was an old school bus that one of the troops in Bham had. Took us three days to get there. I wouldn't recommend it...

That’s how I remember it. Those darn kids..... as annoying as the D-up chant Memphis fans do when they come to Bartow.

Historical derail -- Philmont in NM was endowed by the Phillips of petroleum fame (Phillips 66). I had never heard of it until my grandson (Robert "Trey" Slaughter III) went there as part of his Eagle Scout regimen. The Philmont Museum is in the Phillips mansion in Tulsa, OK. I was impressed by the mansion, its massive gardens and by the guide's story that Phillips would invite neighborhood children to join his own kids to roller skate in his marble floored hallways on rainy days.
