NCAA orders Division I Conferences to realign
From BBC Sport

Quote:The NCAA have ordered the 32 conferences of Division I to reorganise them lineups, or face potential expulsion.

The mandate, ordered by the NCAA president, Mark Emmert, gives the conferences permission to keep 4 current members. But it must add 8 more to make it to an even number of 12. To ensure they all make it to 12, 29 additional members, all but 1 from the NCAA's 2nd division, have been promoted.

Southeastern Conference commissioner Greg Sankey called the dictation irresponsible. He later said to the American network FS1 "I'm Really Indignant. Can't Keep Reassuring Older Losers Liking Erectile Dysfunction to support this.

I'll have the results of the protection draft later on in a separate post.

RE: NCAA orders Division I Conferences to realign
Let's see if I have this right. In this hypothetical scenario, any conference with more than 12 members must shed the excess, and those with fewer than 12 must add some until they reach that magic number.

So the B1G, SEC and ACC have to shed two of their members, and the Big 12 has to add two. That would allow the AAC to take four erstwhile P5 schools and kick out their four weakest teams to make room for them. Of course, it wouldn't be as neat as that. The Big 12 might take the opportunity to relegate Baylor, for example, giving them 3 spots to fill.

But at the end of the day, what would be accomplished?

RE: NCAA orders Division I Conferences to realign
Well, all 32 conferences held a realignment draft, and they had to adhere to these rules:

-The conferences were not allowed, under any circumstances, to select a current member of their conference. They were allowed to select former members.
-Conferences could select members from adjoining states that comprise their current footprint. The Ivy League was exempt from this requirement.
-Football was exempt from the new alignments.

OK, I don't expect this to be taken serious. I just did this to prove that the actual realignment draft taking place is dumb as far as I'm concerned.

All I can say is that whoever drafted for the B1G had to have been suffering from Cranial Rectal Inversion.

Funny you put Idaho State in the Big West, Rube.
In 1993 I think Idaho State really made a push to join.

RE: NCAA orders Division I Conferences to realign
All the schools want to improve were they are at. It has to be noticed and stand out. That is why a lot of FCS, 1AAA, D2, D3, NAIA and schools with no sports yet want to be. It has to be the TV market and other media deals. Schools will not downgrade to be part of a conference that is weaker.
