By having their "best game" on immediately following the pre-game show, they are hoping people will tune in there as opposed the Rinaldi sob story to celebrity picks and headgear in the final hour of GameDay.

Doesn't work for me, LOL. On Saturday, I watched GameDay all the way up through the headgear like I always do, then flipped over to FOX for Michigan/Wisconsin.

I love gameday, it is the only non live sports show I watch there.

I do too. GameDay is like a comfortable old friend to me. You turn on the TV at 8 AM (for me, in the Central zone) and there it is, and you know it's Saturday and time for college football!

College Football Viewership Through Week 4:

All Networks +4%

CFB On FOX +44%

FOX Noon Window +78%

The Fox noon window is such a bull**** stat....
Fox last year weeks 1 thru 4 aired exactly 2 noonish games. FAU/Oklahoma and UCLA/Oklahoma.... So not exactly apples to apples at all...

It's gone up from 2.20 million to 3.13 million.

The correct comparison is between Fox's "noon" games and Fox's largest rating of the day in the same week last season.

For example, Michigan-Wisconsin wasn't the top-rated game of week 4, but it drew a helluva lot more viewers than it would have if Fox had aired the game at the same time as Notre Dame-Georgia. It's a net gain for Fox even if it doesn't win the week.

Go to any OU board and read the complaints. It's one of the primary complaints our fans have about the Big 12. Last season's first two home games were played at 11 am and 12 pm, respectively. Weather in Oklahoma is never perfect, but an 11 am kickoff in September is brutal. But, Fox pays the Big 12 big bucks, so kickoffs are often at 11 am. It is what it is. Every conference has them (except the Pac-12, as long as they stay in their time zones).

11 am (12 Eastern) was once where non-marquee matchups were dumped. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, Fox is finding that they can get better ratings with a good matchup at noon Eastern than by going against ABC/ESPN at night or against the CBS SEC game.

No doubt. It always boggles my mind when the Michigan/Ohio State fans actually *demand* the early time slot because it's definitely not a positive at all for Central Time Zone teams. I couldn't stand those 11 am kickoffs when I was a student (when I rarely functional at that hour after being out on Friday night) and they're not any better now as an adult. That difference between a 12 pm start and an 11 am start feels monumental. I feel perfectly fine watching NFL games that start at 12 pm Central Time on Sunday, but those 11 am Central Time games for college football feel insanely early.

I'm glad someone else noticed the difference between a 12:00 kickoff and a 11 am kickoff. 11 am is brutal when attending a game in person, and even worse if driving more than an hour to a game. It's not optimal for watching on TV, but it's doable. The Central time zone is the only one that has a large number of games at 11 am local time. There are a handful of games in the Pac and MWC at 11 am or 11:30 am local time, but not nearly as many as are played in the B12, B1G, and SEC.

11 am kickoffs aren't going away, but the paying fans hate them.

FWIW, I live in the Central time zone and absolutely LOVE the 11 AM kickoffs on my TV. My attitude is I want to see the games as soon as possible.

IMO, the Central time zone is easily the best for watching college and the NFL. Not too early, not too late, just right.

I’m with you. I LOVE 11am games and LOVE the central time zone. It feels so refreshing driving then walking to a game on a fall morning. It breaks CFB Saturdays cleanly into 4 parts of the day: morning (11am), afternoon (230/3), evening (6/630/7), and night (9/930). It also has the added effect of afternoon games ending at sunset.

The Mountain time zone is even better. First game at 10am is not too early, but you also don't have to wait around until lunchtime. Then, 1:30pm, 5pm, 7pm, and 8:30pm. Solid kickoff time slots, with the late-night game that usually finishes up before midnight.

To me, games starting at 10 AM would cross the line into the "too early" zone. But I've never lived in the Mountain zone so don't know for sure. All I can do from experience is compare Eastern and Central, and to me it's no contest - Central wins hands down for college and NFL.

Mountain would be great for the NFL I'd guess... games at 11, 2:30, 6:30 on Sunday and then at 6:15 on Monday night?

Yeah --- I'm in the Mountain Time Zone (Denver). I've lived in CT and ET.

NFL: MT is definitely the best.

For college though, I preferred the Central.

I was in Hawaii a few years ago on a college football weekend. I was out until 3:30 one night - so College GameDay was on when I stumbled home!

I’m in the Mtn and I think it is best for both.

RE: FOX will air their best game at noon every week
Article from OKC re: 11 am kickoffs:

OU football: Blame the Big 12 for the Sooners' 11 a.m. kickoff epidemic

The article makes the case that ABC/ESPN and Fox, as they emphasize the noon Eastern/11 am Central kickoff, are scrambling to find matchups that will draw eyeballs at that hour. When the headline says "blame the Big 12", it really means performance on the field, and that there are few Big 12 matchups that the networks want to place in the noon Eastern window. OU's game with Kansas State on 10/26 will be their fifth 11 am kickoff in a row.

The early kickoffs are pretty much only an issue in the Central Time Zone. For fans attending the game, there is a huge difference between an 11:00 game and a noon game. For fans watching from home, not so much.

Nick Saban also made an issue of 11 am kickoffs, due to the heat:

I like noon games. Wake up early and tailgate. Plus, there are (usually) less ****faced idiots when you wear your team colors on the road.

Ahh to the on kickoffs. Drop the ESPiN contract. If not, keep quiet. ESPiN is looking after its interests.

FOX is having to line up some really weak games for its "Noon Kickoff" thing.

They basically are resorting to showing a big-name team, regardless of how sorry the opponent is.
