RE: Chernobyl (HBO)
Ive enjoyed watching this. Well done IMO. Im even glad they chose to use english dialog instead of subtitles. The depictions of what radiation does to the human body were shocking...and scary. It is now high on my list of ways I do not want to die.

Talk about an incompetent government.
"An RBMK reactor can't explode."
Well, dumb ass... it did.

I found a neat graphic illustrating how intense the radiation dose was for people near the reactor after the explosion:
Somebody compiled a bunch of images with text describing what happened.

thank you for providing the link. That website is profound. It shows the reactor.... the elephant's foot... the effects of radiation exposure...and the brave men and women who cleaned up the site...and gave their health and lives up in the aftermath of this tragedy.

Revelation 8:10-11: “The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water—the name of the star is Wormwood.

RE: Chernobyl (HBO)
Watched the first episode last night. Very interesting to have a show like this for those of us who weren’t around for the actual event 30+ years ago. Though it’s obviously not 100% accurate, it’s interesting to see how/why it happened and the aftermath. I knew the disaster was bad, but I didn’t know it was THAT bad. Chilling stuff.

Later on when they made decision to send 5000 men onto a rooftop, 6 at a time, and limited to 60 seconds max, so that each man can throw one shovelful of radioactive garbage over the roof is grotesque.
Not only that, but each shoveler had to don a lead lined, hand stitched 'safety jacket'. After each man finished they had to collect each safety jacket, bury them all, then line the pit with concrete.
Wash, rince, and repeat for most of the helicopters and vehicles that were used in the cleanup.

Men?
Don't you mean "biorobots"?
But yeah, that scene was intense! I can't imagine how terrifying that would be for those people.
The animal cull scene was extremely hard to watch as well.

That was some seriously unpleasant tv. For some inexplicable reason, that bothered me more than that the fireman emulsifying in the hospital during the previous episode. I guess because the previous episode was so horrible, it didnt feel as real.

I tolerated it until they got to the puppies. My wife was covering her ears and humming.

Probably not horribly. I doubt very seriously the men were told the full extent of the danger they had been ordered into.

RE: Chernobyl (HBO)
I guess we should have seen this coming...lol
Quote:Russian state TV is preparing to broadcast its own drama retelling the story of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster, but unlike the acclaimed HBO series that has captivated audiences worldwide, the Russian version will suggest a CIA agent was there during the accident.
The Russian series, also titled "Chernobyl," is being produced by NTV, one of Russia’s main television channels, which is owned by the state-controlled Gazprom Media.
Russian TV to air its own version of Chernobyl, which implies CIA may be to blame

You could change a few names here and there and have exactly what is happening right now in this country. An investigation was done. Some in the government didn’t like it so they decide to make up one of their own with the outcome they want. Liberals and communist, birds of a feather flock together.....

The explosion in the Chernobyl reactor was not caused by a runaway reaction but by the steam pressure in the reactor. And that was the result of ignoring multiple safety protocols and shoddy construction of a reactor design we don't use in the US. It was an entirely avoidable incident that required multiple level of carelessness and incompetence.

Science vlogger Phil Mason takes on the idea of the supposed secondary explosion from the lava hitting the water. Good stuff.

Haven't watched anything from Thunderf00t in awhile, but that was a great video. Thanks for sharing.
