RE: Realignment Mock Draft Results
Since the AAC has already made their 2nd round pick (Temple), can the MWC go ahead and make their current 2nd round pick, while we are waiting for the judgement on the Big12/AAC trade?

Where do the MAC, C-USA, and Sun Belt commissions stand on this matter?

RE: Realignment Mock Draft Results
Alright ..... I had a long hard stare into a rum and coke to think things over ..... let's hit the pause button on the draft for now, and see what people think of redoing the draft like so:

Reference: Revenue for all schools https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/

Conferences are created to represent the following regions: Pacific Coast (HQ: SFO), Mountain (HQ: Denver), Midwest and Plains (HQ: Chicago), Texarkana (HQ: Dallas), Southeast (HQ: Atlanta), New England and Mid-Atlantic (HQ: NYC) .... the partitions are geographic and grouped by roughly where there's enough juicy assets to make a juicy conference. Instead of being given "picks" your revenue cap is increased by x amount, and you can make up to two picks with your revenue available.

Nitty gritty:
- Pick order is chosen by lottery.
- Snake draft
- You are given 100m in revenue per pick
- Your first pick must be in the state your HQ is in or a state it borders
--- Every subsequent pick must be in a state you have a team/HQ in or a state it borders
- You are to create *TWO* conferences of 12 teams
--- One "power" conference
--- One "non-power" conference
- Trades would have to be brought to the floor where a simple majority of GMs not in the trade can veto it
- This would be a rapid draft held on a weekend (Saturday afternoon?)
--- Pick time: 5m from being put on the clock

The criteria on which conferences would be judged would be:
- Ability to compete for championships in revenue sports
- Ability to compete for championships in non-revenue sports
- Geographic and cultural cohesiveness
- Revenue potential
- Scheduling compatibility between conferences
--- Is the non-power still credible and respectable in some sports?
--- Travel partners?
--- If the higher-ed and/or NCAA tourney money bubble pops ... is the non-power still viable?
--- TV market overlap or strengthening of the power conference?
--- etc

Thoughts?

Can't have too many people involved or it's way too slow... as you can see above.

When we did this kind of "draft" 5 years ago on the SEC board, there were 8 guys who each picked a "conference" of 12 teams, and it took more than 3 weeks from first pick to last. So I'd say 8 participants is the absolute max if you want to finish in any reasonable amount of time.

We'd have 6 teams using that outline above. I imagine fans of teams in those regions could vote on a GM, we could have a small team of people who have the authority to make a pick for that conference ... that would keep things movin'.

RE: Realignment Mock Draft Results
Let's simplify things a bit shall we?

Have a snake draft with 5 GMs to build new 12 member P5 conferences. Straight up picks--the money thing will be complicated and confusing, and slow us down. The geographic restrictions are that the first 3-4 (?) picks by each GM must fall in contiguous states. (Any P5 not picked up in the first 12 rounds will be considered an FBS independent)

Parallel drafts for G5 and FCS on their own seperate threads. (I wouldn't mind being involved in an FCS draft too.)

I'm in absolute agreement that we need a set time and date to try to knock this out fast. In the drafts with 5 participants if 2 of the 3 univolved parties vote no on a trade the trade is invalid.

What do you think about these terms?

RE: Realignment Mock Draft Results
Another suggestion: The geographic areas should have a roughly equal number of FBS programs.

Example: In the Pacific time zone, there are 8 P5 programs and 5 G5 programs (6 if you include Hawai'l which is the only program west of the Pacific time zone). In the Mountain time zone, there are 4 P5 programs and 9 G5 programs (if you include BYU as G5). The Denver-based conference(s) you list above don't have nearly enough resources. Arguably you'd want to combine the Pacific and Mountain into one region.

In contrast, the Southeast, if it's the SEC footprint minus Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri, has 16 P5 programs and about 18 G5 programs.

New England/Mid-Atlantic is also short on FBS programs unless your mid-atlantic includes Virginia and the Carolinas.

Open to suggestions on regions which have roughly equal resources. I gave it a rough eyeballing based upon census regions. For Texarkana I had in mind TX, LA, AR, OK. I forget what they call it in the census but it's a subregion.

I imagined NE/MA would want to go into Virginia and keep going if they could.

The original concept was fine (No 1 AA)
Commissioner makes the rules and inforces them
You cannot put picks n trades out there to be voted on by GM
1 draft, I like the fact that G5 picks were worth more to P5,
Sets up more inter trading between them.
Manerving to get compensatory picks by G5 would be good.
But you could get burnt

I was fine with the way it was originally planned. Then I was good with the way it was actually unfolding. However it finally goes, I will adapt.

I like to see some FCS schools get picked for FBS in areas that needs it. The problem is hat FBS do need to get a stronger hold on the west coast, northern plains, and the northeast. As it is, you would have troubles getting people to watched or attend games as it is right now.

We could change the rules to make it 10,000 fans in attendance would work. It could add more teams in spots that we do need.

Uh, you need a Southern Geography lesson.

Southeast is MS, AL, FL, GA, TN, SC

Southwest is more LA, TX, ARK, OK, maybe Southern MO.

Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and Louisiana are not South Central. Kentucky is more Ohio Valley and Missouri isn't really anything but could fit in 3 different groupings.
