Breaking News:WAC Loses 2 Schools, But Gain 5
Quote:AP
WAC heard the news that Chicago State is leaving D1 to join D2's GLVC to replace Bellarmine who accepted an A-Sun invite.

The other news is that UMKC accepted the invite to rejoin the Summit as D2's Augustana also accepted the invite.

This put the WAC down to 7 again. This leaves the WAC in desperate mode again for survival. Then they invited 5 D2 schools to move up.

Central Washington University, who is upgrading their stadium, accepted a bid to join D1. The sports they are adding are wrestling, women's wrestling, swimming and diving, women's club ice hockey to varsity status, women's tennis and women's golf. CWU located in a fast growing region of Ellensburg, Washington would maka a good traveling partner for Seattle University. CWU would be suspected to be a football affiliate to the Big Sky Conference if the big schools in Montana and the Dakotas to form an FBS conference. Dixie State would also becomes an affiliate as well. As it is, GNAC with only 4 football teams could lose post season status for only 4 members. GNAC have been trying to get D3 and NAIA schools with football to join with no luck.

CSU-Los Angeles also accepted the WAC's invite. CSU-L. A. were a former D1 school in the conference now known as the Big West. They would fit into D1 perfectly.

West Texas A&M was invited and accepted an invite to the WAC. West Texas A&M used to be a 1A independent in football. They are an old foe to New Mexico State in the past. Both schools competed in the defunct Border Conference and then in MVC when they used to sponsor the sport. West Texas A&M won several conference football titles in both conferences. The fans of both schools including alumni are excited that the old rivalry will start up again for all sports. Their football could be an affiliate to either the Big Sky Conference or Southland.

Tarleton State also accepted an invite to the WAC and an affiliate to the Southland for football. They would have accepted the invite sooner, but they waited for West Texas A&M to be ready for the move. As both schools are growing like the other 2 out west, they are a perfect fit for D1 as well.

The last school accepted an invite was a controversy early in the year. In fact, FOIA that we got emails detailing that the WAC was secretly working with Colorado Mesa to join D1. The detail was for Colorado Mesa to denied on going to D1, and the WAC officials will slam Mesa saying they were not talking to them. As it is from the emails, Colorado Mesa was the second choice to join the WAC from Colorado if Metro State rejected. Colorado Mesa grew as big as they are to attract more students as the only public school in RMAC that have more than 20 sports, upgrading facilities, and added emerging sports. They already have beach volleyball at the D1 level which was part of the cash spending to add sports to attract students. Grand Junction, Colorado metro is over 100K with the area being one of the fastest growing in the state. The school have over 12,000 students and growing. Colorado Mesa could be an affiliate to the Big Sky Conference for football.

The strategic plan for the WAC is to have travel partners for all the schools. They just did do that as the travel pairs for all sports besides football goes.
Seattle U./CWU
Utah Valley/Colorado Mesa
Dixie State/Grand Canyon
California Baptist/CSU-L. A.
New Mexico State/West Texas A&M
UTRGV/Tarleton State

Also from the emails from FOIAs that other schools were targeted.
Colorado-Colorado Springs, Western Washington, NW Nazarene, CSU-Dominguez Hills, CSU-San Bernardino, San Francisco State, Montana State-Billings, Angelo State, Midwestern State, Dallas Baptist, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Central Oklahoma and Fort Hays State. Azusa Pacific was on the list, but their financial status right now hurts their chances. They could be invited in the future. Oklahoma Baptist was also mentioned, but they some more time to grow their sports faster.

With CWU joining the WAC, GNAC loses post season status for football. The last 3 football schools are in talks with the RMAC to merge the last three schools as affiliates in football.

WAC could look at adding number 13 and 14 in the future with Central Oklahoma and Kingsville to pair the 2 eastern Texas schools better. Adding football schools could bring football back into the conference fold again.

That probably should happen- but probably won't. It would make sense given Chicago State's situation.

Quote:The other news is that UMKC accepted the invite to rejoin the Summit as D2's Augustana also accepted the invite.

I think that is probably better than a 50/50 chance. I think UC-Colo Springs has potential for the WAC and moving up could align with the school's ambitions.

But I don't think the other schools would gain much for all the additional expense to move up to D1.
Will CWU pick up any more students from Yakima, 40 miles away? Will they pull students from Pullman, 180 miles away from Wazzu?
I don't think the other schools survive the Cost-Benefit Analysis in regards to a move to D1. Of course, I might have said the same for Dixie State as well.

CWU like WSU pull a ton of their student population from the Seattle metro CWU has also played home football games in Bothell at Pop Keeney Stadium in the past...

More time to grow sports faster? Shouldn't that take less time?

Also, what east Texas schools have you even mentioned?

Those poor travel partners too. Tarleton is like 8 hours from UTRGV 03-lmfao

Cmon, of all people you should be able to do this the best. I'm disappointed.
