Nobody will be happy because it's a restriction, but I also don't want a runaway slop scenario where with the first pick in the draft C-USA selects Alabama either. You want the final configurations to at least be semi-plausible I'd think. (And Alabama in the AAC is also one of those things that would suspend disbelief.) I think you'll find in the AAC the name of the game will be playing into the P5, since it is home of the tastiest teams to expand with within the G5.

So when the Big 10’s first move is to kick Rutgers and no G4 conference wants them do they drop to FCS?

No, they schedule Liberty and NMSU for a home-and-home each year in football to fill half their schedule, then take paycheck murder games at the beginning and end of the season. 05-stirthepot 03-lmfao

Isn't that why the B1G took Rutgers to begin with? Why give up the body bag game against an FCS team that is technically P5? AND they get to pretend they only play D1 schools, to boot!

If nobody steps forward to claim it I'll play as the SoCon. This would bump C-USA off the clock as the SoCon would have the lowest Sagarin.

There are 12 FBS programs in Texas alone, and programs in neighboring states that could be included. I think there is more than enough talent to build a solid 8 to 10 member G5 conference.

Depends on if we have somebody step forward to run the MWC and then you'd start with their inventory or if you're willing to start with a FCS.

To mimic an expansion draft, in think each conference ought to be able to protect X number of teams. I think 5 is a good number.

Should a conference that loses an unprotected team be granted a compensatory pick before the start of the next round?

RE: The Realignment Mock Draft
Im home sick so I decided to do my own conference realignment draft.

I would run it more like a supplemental draft to keep Bama out of CUSA and Ohio St out of the Sun Belt. Lets say the conferences can hold onto 4 of their current members if they choose to before the selecting starts. So for arguments sake the G5 wont want to keep anyone but the P5 can protect their big boys.

Love when our butthurt former Big East brethren whine about us. We'll just cry ourselves to sleep on our pile of money. Enjoy being the Rutgers of the ACC. 07-coffee3

Agreed at protecting teams.

Traditional draft, we're seeding against current competitive advantage.

How about as a compromise .... if you're down a member from being poached twice in one round, you can drop a current member and be granted a compensatory extra pick immediately.

Having mulled it over more ...

I could go with compensatory draft picks after each poaching but we'd need more restrictions. You don't want infinite circles where you raid, they raid back the same thing, you raid it back again, etc.

Perhaps .... a team that was just drafted cannot be moved until (current round + 2)?

Sounds like good terms. The P5 are naturally going to get bled in the opening salvos.

Where do you stand on unprotected teams once they're drafted? If the MAC drafts ND in round 1 are they theirs to keep or can the ACC turn around and draft them out from under them?

How big is the protected list?

Not so much @ P5 bleeding. Remember, you can only pick in your peer group or lower. So P5 can pick anything. G5 can pick G5 or FCS. FCS can pick FCS. Regarding redrafting ... I think infinite redrafts are fine, but there should be a cool off. See my post just a moment ago where I spitballed that.

We could just avoid compensatory picks all together by having each league protect 5 teams and draft 7.

No steals. You draft them and they are yours.

At then end everyone should have 12 teams which makes for good apples to apples comparisons when we are done. That is of course someone trades a team for multiple draft picks at some point in which case at the very end if you have less than 12 you can grab undrafted free agents.
