Pastner hired Lawson and Bowen said Oh Yeah. Then Bowen hires Tubby and says ... Sure you can bring your guys ... Without so much as a phone call to Pop Lawson. The ship has sailed ... But I get a laugh out of folks on this board going on about how bad K.J. Lawson is when if Bowen and Tubby hadn't kicked Pop off the ladder ... We'd still be singing their praises.

He was given a raise to 120k under Tubby; and no one else has believed him to be worth that much since he resigned.

So his deal got sweeter and he still left...

So I guess he is remembering it correctly.

He was promised a position under Pastner in order to get his kids to commit to Memphis. Tubby, however, did not want him in that same capacity, but did not kick him to the curb either. Instead, he moved him and bumped his salary. Not a bad concession and result for Lawson, because he would not be a part of a college staff, if it were not for his children.

It seems to me, he erroneously believed, with 2 kids still in HS, he would be given the opportunity he was denied at Memphis. It didn't happen... or hasn't happened yet. Apparently, he cut off his nose to spite his face. Had he stayed, and his boys stayed, then Tubby would likely still be here and Lawson would still be pulling 120-150k per year and contributing on a D1 staff.

As as a program, we appear to be better off without Tubby or Keelon.

Keep on wasn't part of the coaching staff....I don't think any of us will ever know the whole story.

I don't think about the Lawsons much one way or the other. Dedric played hard and did well, and we should be happy that they helped get Tubby's lazy ass kicked out of town.

In the end, everything worked out perfectly.

Tubby had burned some bridges with coaches in the city already.
The Lawson deal posted off area coaches enough that Smith had to recruit out of town, as no Memphis kid would give him the time of day.
