Local Moeller Alum Jeremiah Davenport Commits
JB's first commitment, figured we could post it on the big board. Don't know much about him, hear he is about 6-6 or 6-7 with some nice skills and high IQ. A solod athlete, but not a freak by any means.

RE: Local Moeller Alum Jeremiah Davenport Commits
Won the GCSA Award for Best Basketball Player in SWOH last year (2018) and played for one of the most fundamentally sound teams I've ever seen ('18 Moeller).

RE: Local Moeller Alum Jeremiah Davenport Commits
Some on this board can change their drawers for the final time.
Quote:Former Moeller High School standout Jeremiah Davenport, a guard/forward now at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia visited the University of Cincinnati Saturday and committed to be a Bearcat for new head basketball coach John Brannen.
Davenport also visited Duquesne and Virginia Tech, per 247sports.com, and the Hokies offered him a scholarship last month.
In April of 2018, Davenport accepted the big-school boys basketball Player of the Year award during the 2018 Cincinnati.com Sports Awards presented by TriHealth at Music Hall in Cincinnati.
Davenport led Moeller to the 2018 Ohio Division I state championship and was Greater Catholic League-South Player of the Year with La Salle's Riley Haubner. The wingman topped the Crusaders in scoring at 15.7 points per game and averaged 6.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting over 59% from the field. On that championship squad with Davenport was Jaxson Hayes who just departed Texas for the NBA Draft and Miles McBride who will be playing at West Virginia next season.
Davenport had 22 points and 8 rebounds in the title game against Solon (83-65 Moeller) and was a workhorse in the postseason stepping up when Crusaders big man Jaxson Hayes would get into foul trouble.
Moeller was 55-4 with Davenport playing on Carl Kremer's varsity as a junior and senior.
He originally signed with Wright State out of Moeller, then reopened his recruiting and went to Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia to work on his academics. That roster also featured Giovanni Santiago of Hughes and Damani McEntire of Deer Park.
Davenport's oldest brother, Michael, played at St. Bonaventure from 2008 to 2012. Another brother, Joshua, played at Winthrop from 2013 to 2017.
Nice Addition

RE: Local Moeller Alum Jeremiah Davenport Commits
A local 2-star or unranked (on 247) guy. A late bloomer type. Offered by VT and a bunch of mid-majors, but some other bigger schools (NC State, Virginia) are said to have given him a look.
That said, he looks like a very good get. He looks like he has bulked up quite a bit with his year at Hargrave and should be instantly ready to play at UC (won't need to add weight/muscle first). It seems like the 6'7" listing is accurate, though I guess we will see when he arrives. Seems similar to the Hardnett/Prince mold (with a bit less athleticism) of a guy who can bang inside or handle the ball and step out and shoot the three. Here's a nice tidbit from a scouting report on him.

The 6’7″ hybrid forward reminds me a little bit of a guy like Grant Williams over at Tennessee, the reigning SEC Player of the Year as just a sophomore. I’m not saying Davenport will do that, but he’s a guy who’s, traditionally, a little short to play the power forward position, but he’s explosive and strong and can shoot the three ball, making him a versatile guy that can play all over the court and create mismatches.

Low-key a real solid pickup. He was better than Jaxson Hayes in high school.

OK?
Thanks.

I think the guy sounds pretty good, myself.
I take recruiting ratings with a grain of salt. If recruiting ratings were all that, then UK would play Duke every year in the championship.
Decent size. Fundamentally sound. Knows how to win. What's not to like?

Is there a reason there are no ratings for him on 247?

since we're getting kids that we didn't recruit out of high school, can we get a double take (hell, it might be a first take) at Giovanni Santiago? same team, arguably better pedigree

So now we want kids committed to Kent State - and he is better than Davenport?

It may be because he reclassified, but not sure.

I don't understand your complaint here. Seems like a perfectly reasonable take - if anything I'd call it a bit on the optimistic side. I'm fine with the commit and glad to see us add a kid from Moeller, but let's be honest: he was a Wright St. commit who had to go to Hargrave instead to get his grades together. Kudos to him for apparently doing so, but I haven't seen much indicating he lit it up at Hargrave on the court to the point of putting him in high demand at top programs.

As I said, I'm good with adding him and hopefull that he could turn out to be a real find. But seriously if this was a Mick commit, his haters would have the sarcastic posts flowing like a production line.
